Nice shiney new host and latest versions of Linux, Apache, PHP etc, etc, etc
I have two bugs which still irritate the hell out of me:
1. When starting a new topic, the page is posted but the user gets the "white-screen-of-death" 2. When sending a PM, the PM is sent but the user gets the "white-screen-of-death"
I assume that this is caused by the same thing and is probably a plug-in or theme conflict although for the life of me I can't work it out.
If anyone codes (and faultfinds) in PHP and would like to help, I would be most appreciative.

My hosting company has informed me that today is (may be) the day!
The switch will require a freeze of the site while we copy and import the database. While this is happening you will see the "Maintenance" page and will not be able to do anything on the site.
Once the database is transferred, the DNS needs to resolve to the new server. This takes anything up to 24 hours (but is usually a matter of minutes).
Once the DNS is resolved, your browser will take you straight to the new site (which will apear exactly the same as the old site!).
Then I can start sorting the image upload, PM and white page issues.

I have revamped the webshop and worked with Glenn and our graphic designer to put the new merchandise online. You can now order t-shirts, sweats, caps, stickers etc by going to www.cafepress.co.uk/sohc4The shop contains three sections: - Original round Logo (but revamped graphically)
- Original 10th Anniversary Logo (unchanged)
- New 20th Anniversary Logo
The global poll (sohc.co.uk and sohc4.net) was overwhelmingly in favour of the red/white logo shown below in both light-background and dark-background versions. [ Guests cannot view attachments ] If anyone is interested, our designer is Salli at www.nutty-tart.co.uk (she rides a Moto Guzzi, but we'll let her off...) Steve

Which of these two do you prefer?
Logo #1 - Gold
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]
Logo #2 - Red
[ Guests cannot view attachments ]
There will be a poll on .net too, so if you are registered, get over there and vote as well!
Winning logo will appear on 20th Anniversary merchandise soon to be available in the shop.

My hosting company has given up with the server upgrade and so I've instigated a move to a new hosting company.
Over the next few days the site may go up and down a bit as the various bits get copied over, databases set up and such.
Looking forward to being able to see attachments once more!

Hijacked the "Honda Service" thread by posting this old picture of me (behind the camera), my brother (next to my 500/4) and my mate Ian (Hondastyle "bumblebee" jacket)
I have some more of these so thought I'd start a new thread for others to comment and post their own.
#2 shows the first time I saw a CBX in the flesh.
#3 ditto with the CB900 (It took 40 years, but now I own one...)

Gerald Kane from Classic Bike is looking for a standard CB500 or CB550 (preferably 4 piper but an F would be OK too...) for a photo shoot and road test early next week.
They are in Peterborough and are picking up a GT500 for the feature from Hastings - so south of Watford Gap if possible.
They collect the bike in a van, are fully insured, will photograph it and ride it a bit and it will be in the magazine!
Unfortunately I only have one 500 left and it doesn't run, so now's your chance!
Post here, PM me or call me on 07802-307696 and I'll put you in touch.
Oh, and make sure it runs properly as it has to beat a GT500...

As this is a small site with only a couple of new registrations per week, I have operated a manual check and approval process since I took over from John. All new registrants are checked against the database at www.stopforumspam.com for username, email and IP address. The process isn't perfect as the database relies on people (forum owners) adding new spammers as they are discovered. Spammers have changed their modus operandi and now do mass registrations and wait awhile before going back and spamming - that way they don't appear on the database until it is too late! However, those poor sods who's job it is to register on forums all day are fairly simple in their choice of username/email and most stick out like a sore thumb! Each times there is a registration I get an email to remind me to go and check/approve the newcomer. This morning there were 24 waiting for me, so have deleted them and switched off the system for a while. So if you are Mr LedGypeimmity (or various small variations of such) - unlucky.

Last Monday it snowed and I came home from work early as I didn't fancy the Marlow bypass at 6pm in darkness and in snow. When I got home I looked at the sorry state of my bike jacket and decided it needed reproofing (and washing) so carefully removed all the armour and gave it the whole Nikwax treatment in the washing machine. Unfortunately my 2 year old iPhone 4 was in the inside pocket... So a complete 90 minute wash, rinse, spin cycle before I could get it out and drain the water out of it. My wife's iPhone died when she spilt tea over the little end connector so I was expecting another trip to the Apple Store and £119 for a refurbed replacement. I took the phone to bits and laid all the parts out in the airing cupboard for a week. Just put it back together and IT WORKS ! As a (1980's) electronic design engineer, I've always subscribed to the view that devices should be able to survive getting wet as long as they are dried properly. But my phone was switched on when it went into the washing machine...

I met Paul on Saturday whilst visiting my mother-in-law for the weekend.
He had a garage full of bikes, including a 400/4 and has been riding and restoring SOHC Hondas for years.
Anyone ever met him?

Rather than hi-jack the CB550K4 (?) thread, I thought I'd start a new one. Eamon had one of these: It featured in MCN when they did a "then vs now" article and put it up against a CBR600RR (!) The old CBX did quite well, putting up: Standing 1/4 mile: CBX: 14.02 seconds @ 96.4 mph CBR: 11.48 seconds @ 126.8 mph Top Speed: CBX: 117.35 mph CBR: 160.04 mph On the dyno: CBX: 53.02 bhp, 31.70 ftlb CBR: 108.07 bhp, 44.59 ftlb I'll bet not many CB750s could make a real 117mph? More here: CBX550 vs CBR600RRThe bike is in Canterbury now and still ridden regularly. MCN Verdict (Roland Brown): "The CBX, outdated, out-moded and out-performed or not had two massive things going for it even by modern standards: it was impressively comfortable and roomy (especially for pillions) and, better yet, it had bags of character. And maybe that's why today's bikers, more than ever, often have a superb modern bike - but also either own or lust after a classic from their youth too." That's us then...
