CB350/400 / Cam Horse Shoe Missing Screw
« on: January 22, 2022, 11:50:30 AM »
I've mislaid one of the screws for attaching the cam chain horse shoe. I see they drilled through, can i get away with just an ordinary bolt? Also, do you loctite them in?

Ted,

great idea, buy one shell green, fit, torque up with plastigauge then measure, move along to the next one.

assume this is what you mean?

Thanks K2-K6

bare with me please.

no colour on shells or crank. big end case states BBBCB. assume this is still ok to buy and use.

So i'm going to take the 3 conrods back and get them measured

The conrod table to me looks like it includes the bearing as it's 32 (-0.010 -0.020) as an example, mine are around the 32.

so conrod 4 (32.089 - crank 31.984 = 0.895 then dive by 2 = 0.4475) so i can use C

should of listen in school!

CB350/400 / Crank Finally Measured by Engineering Firm but I'm confused

I must admit now that i'm a little of of my depth.

Firstly I had a local engineering firm measure the crank up but when i look at the manual it looks likes it's too worn. Is that correct?

I also had connecting rods measured with the bearings (at least 3 anyhow!) but i'm not sure where this leads me.

I'm think bolt the connecting rods on, plastigauge for clearance for bearing size???

thanks Ted

Oddjob,

do i assume these markings on the conrods refer to the bearings i.e. 3c= GREEN, therefore I just need to verify clearance before replacing them?

22
Oddjob, I did try, sat in the sun, in the shade, petrol all over, magnifying class, photos I just cant see them.

Why is it never easy! :'(

23
Just as I thought, I'll take it to an engineering firm for measurement.

thanks all

Ted, apologise for jumping on your thread but looks like we are in the same place.

Oddjob, I've struggled to ID any markings on the crank except one which looks to be A1. So I'm stuck and not sure what i should do next. I have a Parkside micrometre but I'm doubting it as it reads for example 32.18 but if I read the the manual I should be looking for that extra 0 i.e. 32.018. Discussed with my friend and he question the tolerance in the manual. I cant see any real colours on the bearings either....

Anyhow, I now think I need to take the crank and conrods to a local engineering firm to get measurements then i can work out the correct bearings i.e. if the crank pin is 32.018 and the conrod allowance is 35.016 then a need a GREEN bearing?????

git these pictures

26
Oddjob,

thanks, I cant see any markings on mine. Damn

I have numbers on the conrods though. that's a start

Macabethiele

are you using grey plasiguauge?

27
Oddjob,

where would the markings be on the crank as I cant see any on mine so I 'm guessing they are faint but  i do not have a clue what area they are in

Defo changing the bearings but need a closer look to ID then when I go out into the workshop. New van is my main distraction and evening ride outs so the Honda is taking a back seat.

Bike was stood for some 20 years, the previous owner said he managed to get it running but he didnt change the oil etc, just go it running so assume dirty oil.

The whole engine is stripped so I'll change everything that's worn i.e. cam chain, primary chain, bearings etc

thanks for the feedback.

CB350/400 / Another bearing journal topic
« on: April 21, 2021, 03:43:18 PM »
Hi, had a go at measuring the clearance on one journal using plastic gauge (grey). There's a first time for everything. Not got my hands dirty since I got rid of my MKII escort some 25 years ago

The bearing looks shot but the journal in tolerance I think according to the manual.
