They are painted and then lacquered, if you’ve ever polished a casing you’ll see how much the paint covers all the blemishes and casting marks are under the paint. There are LOADS.

I don't go to bed till very late, most days around 3-4am. I don't get up early unless I have something planned, can't see the point. After many years on nights my body has adapted to this regime and I tend to fall back into the rhythm whenever I have more than a few weeks off work. To counter that I will work late till 1-2am on the bike if I'm in the mood.

Tricks & Tips / Re: HOW TO MAKE FELT CARB WASHERS

12 x 8 for the lifter spindle, the choke ones are very hard to make, I seem to recall 10 x 6.9,  Bryan tested the ones I made and said the attrition rate was around 50%, that may be because he was the first to test them and maybe they'd be better once you knew exactly how to fit them. I'll have a try on a set of 500 carbs and see how I do.

Also happens when the primary chain hits the bottom of it Bryan, I've got around 6 tensioners ATM and most show some damage that causes the tensioner to stick to some extent. Some I've had to dismantle completely and reshape the metal body to get them to work correctly.

If the fuel cap is standard I have some of those rubbers if you can't find one.

Little advice on getting the oil gallery plug out of the main gallery under the crank, the one below the rotor. These have a small end on them and a lot of people use that to pull them out but TBH it's not the best way as they do get chewed up doing it that way.

I found removing the plug from under the points and then using a wooden piece of dowel to drive the other end out was far better. A 3ft piece of 1/2 dowel (I'll measure it to be certain)seems to work for me, also has the advantage of pushing out any sludge etc that is living in the oil gallery.

Replacement 14mm gallery plugs are available IIRC, not cheap though, 15331-300-000, are around £20 each believe it or not. Some people say don't use an impact driver to get them loose but TBH I've always done it like that and never had one crack or round off because of it.

Screw for the oil guide, yep, same way. If you round it let me know as I have some spare. IIRC it's a JIS 3.

Oh BTW, if you need some oil gallery plugs I have some available somewhere. Both types.

Yeah, for some reason I thought he had a 550. My mistake, it was really early in the morning.

Proper disc has 6 holes not 4, is that an 18" or 19" wheel?

You mean Monyash? great roads in that vicinity. There's a section of road near Crowdecote that reminds me of that hill in San Francisco that they used in films a lot. The one with the tight bends coming down a steep hill.

There's a good cafe in Monyash that my son says makes great bacon sarnies, never stopped myself, I'm in the groove when I'm near there and just want to find as many corners as I can so I can get my knee down. Silly I know but bends have always done it for me.
That's the spelling - the cafe is the Old Smithy and yes it does make excellent bacon sarnies  ... I'll have a look for Crowdecote

Just down the road from Monyash.

I always used my thumb as a guide, I'd put my thumb on the side of the head of the ratchet and when it felt tight enough I'd stop. I checked it once to see how much I was putting on there and it was perfect so I always do that now.
