Ken I'm jousting I'm not offended at all - if it wasn't for the fact that the bike colour is a brownish bronze colour I would not dream of a brown frame.

I like Apple Candy Red and Black. I take the frame tomorrow to the painters. Gawd knows what I will chose they have some colour samples so I might find something else or go for BB.

IndexTripleS do a lovely candy red for a frame Ted, stunning. Based in Bingley IIRC.

2 spoons, lay the bowl of the spoon on the face, protected of course, lip of spoon under central boss of needle and just press down. Spoons opposite each other.

Always paint the cases whilst part, if together, they can pull paint off the joins when you go to disassemble them at some point. Plus the cases lie flat when apart so easier to paint. Just make sure you get them really clean and clean with brake cleaner just before spraying.

Sorry Ted, you're right, it's your build and your choice. I'll be honest and say the brown colours on the 500 and 550 were frankly awful, I hated that colour, I've had quite a few 500s and 550s and never have I bought a brown one, had black and golds and blues and purple but never brown. It's just a personal thing, whilst we are being a bit cheeky and taking the piss a little bit, that's what friends do to other friends. There's no malice in it.

However I really do think an all brown bike is a poor choice, the 500T had a brown seat and it always looked like you'd shit yourself riding it. First impressions and all that.

Cb500T is the 500 Twin, like a CB450 Black Bomber but bored out a bit and modernised.

500K3, didn't come to this country Ted and TBH whilst I think they'll fit the design may be different due to it being for other countries.

Mine was a right hand fork ear Ted, if you decide to go new. Won't be cheap I'm afraid as I paid quite a bit for it when I bought it last year.

I have a NOS CB500K fork ear Ted but no idea off hand which side it is, bound to be the left as it usually works out that way.

Extremely rare now to find one.

The problem with not using the fork gaiters is that leaves the mounting ring exposed on the ears, however going for aftermarket ones solves that problem, other alternatives are to use CB550F1 ears, those have the mounting rings but use a different mounting system for the indicators, or CB550F2 which don't have the rings but are hard to find in good nick, expensive when you do, or another possibility is using CB500T ears. I have a pair of those NOS as well, those have the indicators mounted just behind the ear, have no ring but look Honda standard. I know where there is a pair of NOS CB550F1 ears BTW.

Just so you can see what they look like

Been using John for some years now, he does have some good stuff but he's not cheap by any means. But so long as you get the part that's what counts.

I stand corrected.

2863
The 550 used flanged bushes but they weren’t metal, they were some sort of hard nylon. It’s possible these may come out with heat Ted but the 500 metal bushes will laugh at heat, they are difficult to remove at the best of times plus as I said the flame would discolour the paint if not bubble it. Trust me Ted, been there, done that.

Without a special tool which goes behind the end of the bush and you can then drive the bush out from the other side the hacksaw method is the best way of removing them.

Dismantle and see where the wear marks are.

2865
There are some problems with that Ted.

Firstly, if the swinging arm is still standard and has the standard paint on then using a flame will wreck it.

Secondly, the 500 doesn't have flanges on the swinging arm bushes, they are essentially just tubes of metal that sit inside the swinging arm, if you have flanged type bushes they ain't standard.
