Title: Which SOHC 750 engine?

Hello,

New member here so please go steady!

Looking for advice on which of the SOHC CB750 engines will make the best base for a classic racer project?

Engine will be tuned, so advice on which/what kit is recommended also welcome please.

It is going in a sidecar, so the dry-sump is an obvious advantage, but are there any "tricks" with how to arrange the oil tank (is baffling needed, etc.) for a sidecar?

Hello & welcome  ;), i would have to say the 750 motor would be a good candidate plenty of tuneing parts available,  i'm sure others will chime in with there opinions  ;), cheers Mick.

For a wider variety of spares and tuning parts I would stick to the early K models, definately leave the F2 and later K's alone.

Welcome,

Or use the lower F2 casings and everything in it and adapt a K cylinder and head. Then you have best of both world's. F2 bottom is very strong, head is crap to tune.
Baffles in oiltank is good to make sure there is no starvation. Think of the G-forces at cornering.
What capacity are you thinking of/ is allowed? You can go up to 1000 if you want.

I thought the F2 top-end would be better (with bigger ports & valves, etc.), but from what you say this is not the case? Is the F2 head particularly fragile?

Problem with topend is the tendency to 'eat' the valve guides. Honda changed the angle of the valves in order to be able to mount these (too) big valves. By doing that they changed the geometry of it with this result. Better is to put some 33.5 mm intakes in the K head and a good portjob and a decent camshaft. Do not go crazy on the cam or take precausion of the valve train.
