Rotten luck, but having caught it early there's there's a good chance they can obliterate it, good luck.

CB750 / Re: Tacho Drive Oil Seal
« on: November 09, 2023, 11:24:12 AM »
Had the same problem on my 750F1, this is what I wrote at the time on the US SOHC site.

Well still having a few teething problems with the 76 CB750F1, but everytime I have a problem I either do a search on this forum or post my problem, don't think I could have got this far without the advice and encouragement I have recieved.
The latest problem was the tacho drive oil leak, it got worse, so I did a search and found the answer on the famous JohnK6 "How to rescue a CB750 from the garbage dump" thread, boy that should be saved somewhere.
Used a wood screw as advised and out popped the oil seal, 10mm 1/4 drive socket and in went the new one, as stated 5 minute job.

Other Bikes / Re: CB750 & Triumph Trident
« on: October 26, 2023, 12:11:19 PM »
The Trident and Rocket 3 have a special place in my memories though I have never owned one of them, I can remember seeing a Rocket 3 in the lake district while I was on an Endevour training course at Windamere in 1968 at the time I had a 250 AJS so I was most impressed.
During the early 1970's when I used to go to various Rallys a friend had a Rocket 3 and I loved the looks of it, later I had a friend who built a special using a Trident engine, he shoe horned it into a Royal Enfield 250 GT Continental, sadly after spending a long time building it and not long riding it some reprobate stole it and it was never seen again.
So in short let us hear of your trials with a Trident.

Talking of CD175's, I was getting married and buying a house so sold my brand new CB750K2 and bought a CD175 to get around on, nice little bike that I could really thrash around on. I can remember the cam chain breaking and having to carry the engine upstairs to our flat to work on it, we were living in the flat while waiting for the endless processing of our house purchase.
The CD175 did not last too long as I could not resist another CB750 and bought a very nice CB750K1, the CD175 being passed on to my wife.

CB750F1 bought new in 1976 for the princely sum of £1200, it was either that or central heating for the house but my better half gave me permission to get the bike, no car in them days either.

Thank goodness for that, I remember timing a 250 AJS backwards once, did it time after time until I finally twigged.

Just read this from start to finish, and what an epic yarn it is, fantastic perseverance and skill in getting this far, hope it works out right.

CB750 / Re: What are these plugs telling me?… and other questions!
« on: August 30, 2023, 09:52:53 AM »
Everytime I change the plugs on mine I am extra carefully of the two inner plugs, I tend to use the Ted method with some rubber tubing but an old straight plug cap sounds really good as well. Sods law also says that it will be one of those that soots up, though Denso plugs solved that one for me ages ago thanks to Hondaman over on the US site.

I used to use one in the olden days on my 750 as it had a clear pocket which I used for maps, no sat nav in those days.

Yes my original rear mudguard was a metal one with two flutes in it to catch water and corrode, so it was first of all modified with drains and then replace with an F2 plastic one. It's in a drawer in the garage, I keep meaning to strip and paint it.

I took mine off when I first bought the bike in 1976 as it ground too easily, it's still in the loft, I will have to put a big padlock on the loft hatch now.

CB750 / Re: CB750 K3 - lack of power
« on: August 21, 2023, 09:52:22 AM »
When I rebuilt my 750F1 I followed my wife in the car through Liverpool and was gobsmacked at the speeds she was doing through the camera infested areas, so I did some testing using the car as a pace maker, at 30, 40, 50 and 60 mph.
The result was the speedo on the Honda was 7 mph fast at all speeds, no wonder I was having problems with 30 mph speed limits, so since then I just deduct 7 mph from whatever it tells me.

Misc / Open / Re: Manx GP 2023
« on: August 18, 2023, 07:39:09 PM »
I used to go to the TT and Manx every year from 1970 to 1978, and it was pretty simple and cheap, in the early years it was just throw the tent and sleeping bag on the back of the bike and off we went, usually camping at Bray Hill.
If the weather was iffy or we got fed up it was easy to swap to a B&B in Douglas, then later the camping was given up and it was B&B's all the way, none of it was too expensive or hard to organise.
The last time we went was 1978, our honeymoon and we were on the 750F1, it was changing then, starting to get very commercialisedwith lots of "biker" entertainment, instead of making our own fun.
When I read about it now I am horrified at the expense and need to book so early.

Cheers
