The owner of Gateros told me in a conversation that a 6mm x 50mm bolt would be 1/3 of an amp for 20 mins, plating companies only plate for 15 min he said so the extra 5 mins gives you a better coating whilst only being a few more microns thick. If the part isn't a critical fit part you can leave it for a good while and really pile the plating on but not if you have threads etc.
Getting ready for my first attempt this weekend I reckon. Some of the parts I'm going to plate are unusual, we'll see how they come out.

According to this site https://www.cyclechaos.com/wiki/Honda_XL250 the frame number is from a 1978 model. However I doubt whether the DVLA would accept that, maybe Honda Owners Club would be able to help as they supply the DVLA with age related queries AFAIK.

No it's all sorts of part mate, some linkage parts off the carbs etc might do the main stand etc.

I'm going to start zinc/nickel plating shortly and one of the things I'd like some help with is working out the area of where I'll be plating. Ideally I'd like a sort of gun which lasers the bolt etc and just gives a figure so I could add up all the parts I'd be plating in one go and then I can work out the ampage. Anyone know of anything that might be suitable or am I asking for the moon here. Can't be too expensive of course.

Odd as most of the other sohc fours came with the plain washer, still not exactly hard to add one and will save your paint.

It didn't Ash as the funnel for the air filter box got in the way so they removed it. Run it without the funnel though and the tray should fit ok, it's certainly better there than where they fitted the tools after though. Never saw the need for the funnel myself, possibly something to do with reducing induction roar.

I'd remove the front engine bracket bolts and put a flat washer under the spring washer, you'll find mounting a spring washer against paintwork will mean it removes the paint under the washer over time and thus cause rust. It was this way when Honda first fitted those bolts, always spread the force across the surface whenever possible, spring washers tend to spin as they are tightened down thus gouging the paintwork as they do so.
