Title: On the subject of Speedo's
Post by: PMK on April 28, 2010, 05:24:45 PM
My speedo is fine up to 60 then it seems to lag behind a bit. At 75 on the GPS it's actually reading 70 and reads 75 at 6,000 rpm.

Sometimes as I go over a bump at that speed the needle drops and rises.

Should I be looking at the clock or the drive?

The speedo on my F1 is 7 mph fast at all speeds, I clocked it against the car, as to strange readings I would check the cable, oil it or change it.

Cheers

May also be worth checking the route of the cable. Try the inexpensive methods first  :D

My speedo is 5-7 mph too fast, but I always thought it was a feature with Japanese bikes?

Even my R1 reads fast...I checked it against my GPS.

I think that all vehicles over read, but it's good to know by how much. More modern vehicles can have a 'speedo healer', but only for electronic ones.

On my Exup it has a mechanical drive...it is 20 years old this year...& I had the same problem with an erratic reading. I Removed the drive cable, cleaned & lubed it, & now it reads a more stable reading.

Thanks chaps

I'll try cleaning the cable so watch this space.

My speedo reads slow all the way up to 60 ish then gets accurate, then reads real slow

Hence my question.
