CB750 / Points backplate positioning.
« on: September 22, 2011, 06:15:41 PM »
Dragged the CB750 out of the shed today for the first time in over a year, I have never been able to ignition time 1 and 4 unless the backing plate is turned so far around the screw holes do not line up on the two lower screws ?

I have removed the backing plate and as far as I can tell it can only go in one set position in realation to the points cam lobe due to the dowel on the advance and retard mechanism.

Any ideas ? or am I being really thick ?

The red arrow on the image shows how far out the screw hole is.

Replacement gearbox.
New camchain
new rings
new seals
new fastners
plus lots of other bits and pieces
total paint and polish

As it came out of the frame.

Stripped and painted

Assembly

Cleaning and polishing as I go.

Ending up with this............

Looks all to easy in a few pics !
Now for the rest of the bike which is now totally stripped since this pic and a few bits have been made ready.  ;D

Tricks & Tips / Valve lapping tool trick
« on: October 29, 2009, 08:29:54 PM »
Lapping valves can be frustrating as the suction lets go on the valve lapping tool, I came up with a quick fix that works well

Go to a local hardware store ( I used Wilkinsons) and buy some sticky Velcro patches
attatch one to the wooden valve lapping tool by using a very small self tapper
attach the other half to the valve itself using it's own sticky back
no more lost suction

Simples !

New Member Introductions / Hello Ebay has a lot to answer for.
« on: September 28, 2009, 10:59:08 PM »
I don't know how I ended up looking at old Honda's on Ebay, you just sort of drift there don't you ! I got the idea in my head that i needed one and tonight I rode a CB750 K6 home to Essex from South London, bidding finished around 2.00Pm home in my shed by 9.00Pm, if I keep the shed door locked do you think the wife will notice ?
I plan to do a total strip and refurbish but not back to 100% standard as i want a bit of cafe racer inspiration to shine through from my youth.
I am really looking foward to getting stuck in and feel at home again as I have had a couple of SOHC's when they where modern.
So hello to you all from me, I will be in the shed if you need me
