Yes I have seen that before, but i am a bit reluctant to cut up the early "K"series  right hand tap tank that I have, the "F" series tank was cheap and cheerfull so i won't mind having a go at making it longer as in my dodgy artists impression.

All sorted,
Hairygit sent me a PM detailing how to go back to basics on set up and all is now well, she fires on four cylinders a treat. Bit of carb fettling now required.

Think I am going to plump for the F tank instead of the K tank.

CB750 / Points backplate positioning.

Dragged the CB750 out of the shed today for the first time in over a year, I have never been able to ignition time 1 and 4 unless the backing plate is turned so far around the screw holes do not line up on the two lower screws ?

I have removed the backing plate and as far as I can tell it can only go in one set position in realation to the points cam lobe due to the dowel on the advance and retard mechanism.

Any ideas ? or am I being really thick ?

The red arrow on the image shows how far out the screw hole is.

Your not wrong Steve, I tried various angles for the tail section and just preffered this angle, what I was getting at about the Piper look was just a straight section as opposed to a cone type section, there was nothing wrong with the Marshall tail section but it was like a great big traffic cone shoved on the end of the pipe.

Wheels are on as are new shocks, fork tubes, chain and sprockets etc, etc, etc. Altered the marshall deeptone 4 into 1 to look like a Piper from the seventies. Ordered a pair of clip ons today, the light is shining at the end of the tunnel, it's been a long tunnel !

Stewart, one thing to bear in mind is they have a 6 week waiting list at the moment although I managed to persuade them to do mine quicker on an emergency build at a premium of

Picked up my wheels today after a rebuild, I had alloy rims and stainless spokes fitted by Hagons, they done a nice job. On the way home from Hagons I stopped at the tyre dealer who fitted Avon Roadriders AM26's, I am well pleased with them. Over the next few days i can put the forks in complete with new tubes from David Silver and get her back on her wheels.

Honda - San, it is a mixture of PJ1 fast black and believe it or not Halfords satin Black as used by my brother on his superb restorations of seventies MX bikes.

Spitfire, I welded the frame myself after consulting an engineer friend who told me I was making a mountain out of a molehill, not the prettiest of finishes but she is now back to full strength.

I am glad I have seen this thread as I felt as though I was the only one to lose motivation in this freezing weather, some bits arrived in the post and they are still on the kitchen side as i have not even ventured up the shed lately.
I removed my Harley from the shed last weekend so as i can get on with grinding and welding on the CB frame, ( if the sparks ignite the shed i don't want the Harley to burn down with it ! ) never got any grinding or welding done and the Harley is still covered up snug on the decking.
It's been a long hard slog so far but once the frame is ready it will be time to put the engine in and it will look like progress is being made, I must make the effort to get the frame finished. ;D

Pete, the cafe racer inspiration pic looks great, hope mine turns out to be half as nice as that.

I still do modern although some may argue that my Harley is modern ! never thought I would ever get a Harley but the XR1200 changed my mind and it's a blast to ride. Also in the pic is my Gixer thou, sadly I have sold that now to fund the cafe racer project. And with a bit of photoshop that is me on both bikes.

Cafe racer project, way to go Pete !
If you have never ridden a SOHC before then don't expect to be blown away by it, I was fortunate enought to have owned a few of these in my youth and then 30 years later  I bought my project bike and rode it home, erm, not as sharp as my rose tinted memory would have had me believe but then if you wanted speed and handling then you would buy a modern bike.
