Title: 75 400 Project commences
Post by: PaulC on October 02, 2021, 06:24:15 PM
Picked up a 75 CB400 Super Sport that has been sat for 11 years in a leaky garage. It's a bit of a mongrel with what I believe are cornstars, front brake and forks from 250 super dream. Non standard indicators, knackered front headlight and no kick start pedal. Still had old fuel and oil in it and the front brake had seized solid.

My plan is to do a cafe/brat style conversion as that would work with the current wheels. Spoked wheels are on my wish list but would need hubs as well and that setup is currently out of my price range! This also chip in the casing where it meets the points cover.

So first thing first strip down.

Rapid progress, looking forward to tomorrows pictures.

Don't be fooled by all the photos being on one post it looks like a weeks work  to me -first photo was taken on the 24th September, the last one on the 1st October so that's work done over 7 days.
It will take another two days to get the centre stand pivot out if it's anything like mine was.

Okay I'll admit it I'm envious of the progress - it will be an interesting project to read.

Gonna need a new wiring harness, mister cowboy has been hard at work on that.

It'll definitely need a tidy up, but everything lit up prior to tear down so I may get lucky fingers crossed.

Does anyone have a close-up of an original 400/4 kickstarter, as I have a couple of different one's; but only one has decent internal splines.

These are the ones I have!

They are not 400f kickstart levers.
This is mine, with a crack in the usual place. A black plastic cap covers the hole in the knuckle.
The allen screw is not original. HTH.

Taysidedragon, thanks for the photos that's a great help. The bottom one is from a CB250, the top one is unknown but more of a match to yours. Maybe I can make one good one out of the pair, as long as its functional 😀.

Apologies for lack of updates, just been sourcing parts, which include some shiney stainless pins for the foot pegs and a spoked rear wheel with axle spindle (so chuffed and it wasn't the price of a body part). Also purchased some consumables, 10L of evaporust for the tank, more plusgas, POR15, scouring wheels for grinder and some paint for the frame.

Here's the rear wheel, ugly to most but beautiful to me:
