CB750 / Re: Taper head race bearings.

Okay sorted it. If anybody requires the correct seal the DSS part number is FDCBE-371-010P (Honda part number 53214-371-010). They are £2.95p plus the usual unbelievable postage charge. These are the ones with the steel centre core that the bearing sits on, with the rubber outer seal bonded to it. Cheers all and thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Yep sure enough, put the front together and the whole weight of the bikes front is on the rubber dust seal as its trapped between the spacer washer and the bearing. That surely cant be right. Can it? Anybody know where I can get seals like the ones in the Allballs kit. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply Trigger. Will give that a go. Was just concerned that this rubber seal will be trapped between the spacer and the bearing, making setting the bearing play a bit hit and miss. What I was expecting to receive was the older type seal with the steel inner like the ones supplied in the Allballs kit. Never mind will give it a go. Cheers.

Just got some seals for the taper bearings. They are not what I expected really and now I am not too sure where they go. The seal is like a U shape that looks like the spacer washer goes inside it. It that correct? If it is correct, that would mean the front end of the bike is supported on the rubber seal, or am i missing something. Cheers.

Wouldn't want to go any distance on that thing, the family jewels are at severe risk. You may also need a number plate for the UK. A non running show bike I think.

Misc / Open / Classic TT 2014
« on: August 30, 2014, 05:48:43 PM »
Just back from the Classic TT. Been to all the races, all the VMCC stuff, and generally all over the island. All been good except for one very strange thing, I did not see one single CB750 of any flavour anywhere on the island. Are CB750's getting rare or does nobody actually ride them anymore. I'm probably as guilty as the rest as mine stayed in the garage whilst I went on a CB1300.

Thanks for that info Trigger. Is it absolutely essential to fit the dust seals with taper rollers as I don't have any, and non were supplied with the kit. Cheers.

Green1 is right about alloy going black. I once put some carbs in that were really grimy. They came out nice and clean but black. They were a devil of a job to get shiny again due to being so intricate. Wont be doing it again since discovering vapour blasting, that makes them clean and shine like new. Not too expensive either.

CB750 / Taper head race bearings.

Hi. Bit of advice required if somebody could oblige. Am about to change the head race bearings on my 750F2 for taper bearings. Have bought a set that has the two races (fairly obvious which is top and bottom due to the different sizes). My kit also came with a large steel washer. Does anybody know where this washer goes. I assume it's there to build up the stack height to match the original ball races. My guess is that it goes underneath the bottom race on the yokes, but it is only a guess. Help Ta.

Holy mother, your right about the DSS prices. Not doing that, that's just plain old Dick Turpin robbery. Just been back to good old EBay, what a bunch of super stars. Got all the o-rings Nitrile 70 shore in the correct sizes. 10 each of the four sizes I need, £10.05p including postage for the whole lot. EBay saves the day again, this rebuild job would be impossible without EBay. Cheers.

Just a bit more info on the gasket set I bought. It's an NE Super Gasket brand from M&P, Part No. 995850, A High Level product. The gaskets in the kit appear to be of reasonable quality (although I haven't tried them yet), the only o-rings supplied with it were 8 for the tappet covers. Thanks for the info on the rubber type. Does anybody know if DSS sell these o-rings separately by part number. Cheers.

CB750 / Gasket sets
« on: August 01, 2014, 05:39:35 PM »
Picture the scene. All engine bits nicely repainted, all machining etc done, all spotlessly cleaned and neatly laid out on the bench. Here we go, open the 'full' gasket set and get assembling this beast. "But wait" where's all the bloody o-rings. Not a single o-ring has been supplied in this so called full gasket set from M&P. Has anybody else had this problem with Honda sets. Have so far rebuilt Triumph, Norton, and 3 Kawasaki's and not once have I encountered this problem. In fact the Kawasaki sets had extra's in them (that caused another problem in thinking I had missed some out) but hey, better that way. The question is, do I now need to identify every o-ring and order them separately, or can I just get an o-ring kit and use that. Not sure what type of rubber they are etc. Anyway the jobs stopped yet again whilst I wait for parts that should be there already. Happy days.

Cheers Mick, am sure to need something along the way. Will probably have a run down to Lancaster shortly, will pop in and have a look at your bikes.

Thanks for the offers on the replacement frame for my F2. Just picked one up from a very nice chap in Derbyshire, whiteylfc. Cheers John, and nice to have met you.
