Misc / Open / Re: First and Worst
« on: August 15, 2010, 03:25:53 PM »
An Ajs 250 14csr  with loads of chrome was my first and worst bike.It snapped crankshafts for fun sometimes after only 10 miles. Something to do with it being a three piece bolt up crank. In the design they didn't undercut the shoulder of the bigend pin to stress relieve it so they just used to sheer off. I wasn't all that disappointed when i bent the frame a little trying to jump a ditch(not intentionally),there was this bird you see on the side of the road at a bus stop. Had to look didn't I !!!!!!

I like it but I agree about the side panels. Apart from the fact I couldn't afford it I think its great that naked bikes are back in fashion these days.

CB750 / Re: 750 F1 / F2 CAMSHAFT
« on: March 15, 2010, 12:52:45 AM »
The F2/K7 camshaft has a slightly taller lobe height and is slightly fatter measurements are in the haynes manual. Cam height inlet 36.00mm exhaust 35.5mm. The F1 and K series appear to be the same at 35.86mm inlet and 35.36mm exhaust. Not a huge difference the F2 one is definately a wider lobe though to give longer opening time. Info subject to alteration by the real knowledgeable geezers on here though ;)

Woohoo another F2 owner, we 're getting a nice build up on here now. Welcome to the forum Paul. I also have two F2's one running pretty much std original trim and one that needs a lot of dosh spending on it. If I could get my head round photo resizing I would post piccies too.

Diesel is an amazing product for removing lots of rusted in bits. I kid you not. Just dunk it all in a barrel/bucket and leave for as long as you can. Seized pistons free in hours. Spray it on bolts and bits and wait a while.

They're cheap if they go for that. I was thinking about 75 quid for a set I have in the garage. Maybe i'm just a greedy bastard.  :-\

DS is much loved and appreciated by many on this forum. Also try cmsnl.com from Holland but watch the postage costs. Then there's the dreaded e-bay which we often moan about but use quite a bit. Many use people in the US but I haven't had much success myself. And last but not least a mention on here sometimes turns up trumps.

CB750 / Re: F2 MOTORS ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY AOUT THEM?
« on: December 22, 2009, 09:17:50 PM »
As far as I know the only real weakness is the valve guides which were modified from other models in an attempt to boost power output with bigger valves. That worked but it meant the reliability suffered somewhat compared to other models. My first F2 in 1981 had a really bad smoke problem on overrun which turned out to be the valve guides. I had new ones fitted and had no more trouble. Otherwise it was a great bike if you allow for handling of that era compared to modern bikes. Toured Europe three times subsequently and had no problems at all. The speedo said it would pull 130 flat out downhill and two up whether thats reliable I leave to you.
