Hi all,
What oil should I be using, 10/40 or 20/50? should it be mineral, semi synthetic or synthetic?
I've been using Halford's own 10/40 mineral.
Just wondered what you guy's recommend?
Thanks
Andy

Oh boy, if this was the US site people would be putting on the popcorn and opening the beers!!!
In the UK use the 10w40 mineral oil to the spec in the handbook I.E. "SE". NOT SYNTHETIC unless specificaly designed for motorcycle with wet clutch.
More important is change it every 1500 miles----with the caveat of at least once a year--- and although Honda say filter every 3,000 i would say every time oil is changed

I'm a creature of habit and use the same oil now that I used in the 70's Duckhams 20/50 Classic oil, the important bit is to change it regularly, I always stick to changing the oil every 2000 miles. As Bryan says watch for modern synthetic oils they can affect on your wet clutch.
Cheers

Hi Andy i use Halfords 10w40 in both my 750's had no problems with it 8), i have also used over the years cheap 20w50 stuff from the supermarkets and had no problems either ;) change my oil and filter every 1500 miles, cheers Mick.

I used to use silkolene 10/40 but price wasn't too good and got worse (

I have been using either Halfords semi bike oil or the Hein Gericke semi bike oil for a long time now, with no problems on any of my bikes.
The only time that I use fully-synth is on my KTM enduro racer.
After a BIG problem with a pattern oil filter on my original 550F1 (it collapsed) I always specify Genuine Honda oil filters, no matter what people say.

Where can you get Duckhams 20/50. I thought that this was discontinued. Still surprised.
I assume that the Halfords 10/40 mineral is their bike oil?

Duckhams used to be in West Wickham in Kent. But I have not seen there product for a long time now.
I have only seen the fully and semi-synthetic bike oils in Halfords for a long time now. These are JASO labelled so they are ok for all Jap bikes.

You can get Duckhams on the internet, just type it in, I also got a local car accessory shop that can order it for me.
