I am in the process of restoring my 1972 Honda CB500F and I need to repaint the engine crankcases, barrels and cylinder head.
Can anybody please tell me what vht paint and primerto use that matches the factory coulour and finish (that lasts).
Cheers

Hello Mark. I have a 1972 500/4 as well (and I had one in 1972!) I don't think the cases were painted on these bikes. Just laquered. Later models were painted however (400/4) and so I'm sure that you can get paint to match. I used Sperex VHT 1200 on my 500 in the 70's (but I used red and black - it was the 70's afterall!) The Sperex had to be baked on (in the oven!) but proved resistant to fuel, oil, brake fluid, heat and everything else. Unfortunately the bike did not prove so durable and expired in 1979 with 50k+ miles on the clock.

Thanks for that Steve,
It will now be laquered.
I also have a 1975 model in my garage, I wonder if that one was painted.

Gloucester's not too far.
Do your bikes run?

The 75 Model is 100% ready to run, just replaced head gasket and clutch.
How far away are you away, we have 6 bikes in the garage fully restored 1930 to 1975, and ready to ride.
Always looking for a reason to stretch their legs

Mark,
Welcome. Do you know Bryan Jones from Gloucester, he is a Honda expert.
Btw, Steve and I live near each other, near Bracknell.
Jim.
