Title: unknown wires

Hi I’ve just fitted aftermarket switch gear from silvers and noticed there’s 2 spare wires in the original Honda loom, a orange/white one and a blue/white one, any body know what there for ? The new switchgear wires are all connected so its nothing I’ve missed i dont think

Off the top of my head they look like the ones used for the USA spec bikes where headlamp is on all the time and the front indicators double up as running lights. If you're in UK you obviously don't need them.

Julie's spot on, they are for the "clearance lights" in the front indicators of US versions, but all the looms have the cables, but not all are in use

Thanks for the replies, hopefully thats all they are but its a uk bike, unless its had a loom change in its chequered past  ;)

All bikes were fitted with the same main loom..Mine is a UK bike and has those wires but obviously never connected from the factory.

Most model type looms are the same its the switches they changed for different markets, from my dealings dvsa i was told orange running lights are not legal for UK registered bikes

And that's why they were never connected on UK models Daz. Honda never, ever used different parts for different world markets if they could get away with one product and leave a couple of wires with nowhere to go 😊

We had info to the contrary of that a few years back. Used to have a 66 Ford Mustang, was told it had to have white sidelights, BUT could also have amber as long as it had white ones as well. So we used UK headlight units with built in sidelights, then we could have amber as well. That said, US bikes never had front sidelight, maybe that was the issue?

I often wonder why the European (ie UK, European Direct, France, Germany, Sweden) 400F had pillion foot-peg loops from Frame #1027742, but retained swingarm pegs in the bigger rest-of-world market.

Also, the ‘rest-of-world’ (USA, Canada, Oz, General Export) 400 has the steering lock incorporated into the ignition switch - so much easier versus (the European?) version of grubbing around between the forks.

Neither difference has obvious safety implications, so why would Honda bother with the logistics of 2 differing frames?

One was an upgrade but they had stock of old ones they palmed off on some coutries-----maybe

... not buying that one (!) Bryan as the US/Canada is surely the bigger market and yet stayed with the swingarm footrests. Furthermore, the Ignition Steering lock is definitely a frame improvement... and to my knowledge, is not found on (the later) European loop footrest models.

With regard the US/Canada market, I remember reading somewhere that they much preferred the 350/4, whereas the 400/4 sold well in UK/Europe.

Combined LED indicator and running lights are fitted as standard to my mates 2019 CB1000r Neo Sports Cafe so, for new bikes at least, this appears to have changed.
