However the bike continues to start well enough, although not first kick. I have just drained the tank as the petrol's been in there long enough. It can have fresh when the curfew is over.

Thanks for that Ashimoto - very useful info. I don't think the bike had ever been converted though as the bulbs were all 6V. Regards. Dave

I had a look for any identifying marks on the new coil - there were none. Had a look on Google re 12 volt vs 6 volt and came away confused. Which one then? I will stick with the original for now, so I have a brand new coil going if anyone's interested.

In February I asked for tips on starting my problematic CD175 and tips were generously given, gratefully received and acted on - thanks to one and all. But no cures. By pure coincidence I met someone who'd experienced a similar problem with his CD175 and eventually he pinpointed a defective coil although it was brand new. So he put back the tatty looking original and away the bike went. Luckily I still had my original and did the same with same result, better starting and smoother running. Boom Boom job's a good 'un!

Thanks for that adespin. I think that I've covered all the electric side, i.e. new coil/leads, condenser, points, plugs. But must make sure that I have them set up right. Also it's possible that there's a faulty unit, I have heard of that even from a brand new item. I should have said this at the start of the thread - dummy me!!! Thanks again for your comments. Dave

Hi, I have a love of Triumph twins, done many miles on 60's Bonneville and Thunderbird. Currently have a 2006 T120 but hardly ride it because I don't do the miles anymore and with a shed full of other bikes, etc. It's low miles and in great nick and will be coming up for sale soon. Cheers Dave

Many thanks guys. I think that I have given all the points that you mention a good dose of looking at and setting up to what I think is correct. However, I will get the manual out and go over them all again. I was never sure how much or little choke to give, so will apply full choke next time out. I am sorely impressed with your hand starting Moorey, I'm obviously missing something somewhere. I'll keep you posted on how I go on, but it will be a few weeks as the bike is currently overwintering at my sisters garage. Thanks again and kind regards. Dave
