Title: A rusty hulk - so sad!!
Post by: Rozabikes Tim on April 25, 2023, 05:04:38 PM
Well doing the old eBay trawl for resto projects and such. Low and behold  my old bike came up. In a very very sad state as you can see. The motor in that was an absolute peach. Even the engine spec and  Dyno papers from TTS who set the carbs up are with the listing images.

Now just another 70's shed you would walk away from.....

That really is a mess - at least the seller hasn't tried to tidy it up and suggest it won't take much work!

How long since you owned it? ..must have been parked outside for ages by the look of it.

I would guess at 10-12 years. I messaged seller and he says he bought it during lockdown. Would suggest left outside prior to his ownership.

Now that's a real shame, from a much loved bike to a neglected rust bucket, I would hate to see one of my ex bikes in that condition.

Cheers

Dennis

I have a load of spares for both the 750 and 900. Just messaged him to see if the engine is locked, if it isn’t I might have that Tim.

What a state but I do like a challenge and there’s deffo more than a years fidfling in the shed thete so that suits me perfectly……

Dunno yet, we’ll see what he says.

If the motor isn't locked and if you have the patience Roo, go for it Pal. It's the motor I remember. Front wheel up off the throttle. Quite  an achievement with such a weighty barge. ;D

As long as its not one of the first batch, they had a mod to stop the sprocket seal blowing out

What a shame to get to that point.

Worthwhile though Roo if you're up for it. Bike with some history and knowing previous owner/racer makes for a cool project.

Interesting how well the Comstar wheels have resisted the conditions of storage. They are quite a high spec alloy and more forged than other manufacturing process, makes the surface particularly compacted and resistant to corrosion starting..

Be good to see the project if you get it Roo, all that hard  work would be good to watch  ;D

I may have a few bits from my 900 lying around...but I fear they may have been chucked as I ran out of space..😞😞

If you do go for it Roo you will find the brakes massively inadequate. I have a CBR600 front and rear end inc brakes that could be fun. You ain't the standard type are you Roo!

Not if it doesn’t work bud, no. And that’s waaaay past the requirement of standard bits I think, it’s a proper money pit that one but I’m strangely drawn to it!
That and it’s Tim’s old steed so another oil reason for maybe getting it

Dunno yet, waiting to see if it’s locked, if it is I may leave it, we’ll see

If you are wanting someone to look first hand at anything my cousin lives v close if it is in Gainsborough as listing. Her hubby was a bike mechanic. Not spoken to him for a bit but if needed etc....

Ooo, that’s a good shout Tim. I’m expecting a message from the seller later, I may be in touch buddy. Cheers for that mate.

Long and low - they always have the makings of a good cafe racer with bikini fairing and also a rear mudguard rather than a chopped off back-end (a la old Moto Guzzis La Mans..and other similar things).

it would be even more of a pig to manoeuvre with clipons, so maybe just low bars.

Be warned Roo, that's a serious money pit. So many things need replacing and the frame looks dodgy in places.

I have a spare frame, forks n carbs and a full engine in boxes at home, otherwise I wouldn’t be liking. Anyway, the chap who has it asked me how to turn the engine over by hand do I think he’s not that clued up tbh

Anyway I’ll eat up heat…… like I said, dunno yet

Always fancied a CB900FC, the one with the gold wheels, quality bike.

I'm always torn between the silver paint and the blue, but on balance I think silver wins. Wasn't the 'c'  the ten -speed one?

I liked the red one and the black one best. Given a choice I'd buy a red one.

Got the model wrong, it's the CB900F2 that I like best.
