CB500/550 / Re: Cam chain tensioner seal
« on: August 03, 2020, 11:33:03 PM »
Thanks I will try that but I've just looked at the parts diagram and it is an o ring.
I used a seal that I got when I bought the bike as a project and was marked as the seal for the cam chain tensioner but it is a flat ring.
Not sure but it may be a seal for the tacho drive

Hi
Has anyone had a problem with an oil leak from the cam chain tensioner bolt.
I have replaced the seal and the tensioner is new.
Has anyone used an o ring instead of the flat Honda seal

CB500/550 / 1976 550 number plate
« on: July 18, 2020, 04:23:32 PM »
Can anyone tell me what style of number plate would have been fitted on a bike registered in 1976.
Would it have been a pressed aluminium or plastic.
Thanks in advance

CB500/550 / front brake

New master cylinder and new seal on caliper the pads are adjusted as per manual but I don't think the brake is very good.
I have bled the system with no problem several times but there is about 1.75 inch travel on lever and it just doesn't feel very sharp.
I ride a modern bike with dual discs am I expecting too much of the Honda brake.

Thanks for the reply.
After repairing several broken wires and bad connections everything is working well now.
It's taken a full day of wire tracing etc but it's really satisfying when everything is sorted

Can anyone tell me if the engine needs to be running for the head and tail lights to come on or should they work off the battery.

« on: June 17, 2020, 10:36:29 PM »
Thanks for the reply I took the bike on as a half finished project the frame and electrics all done I've rebuilt engine , gearbox etc.
I think the indicators have been replaced with pattern parts and the same fittings have been put on the front of the bike as at the rear and they won't take the double filament bulbs.
I will have to source the correct fittings or disconnect the permanent live feed and have them operating as the UK spec bikes do

Hi
Going through things after a full rebuild and I've got a front indicator problem. The indicators come on with the ignition and stay on which is correct but do not flash, they have the same bulb fitted as the rear indicators which are single filament, am I correct in thinking that the front bulbs should be double filament.

Hi
Has anyone sourced the clips for the air box rubbers from anywhere other than David Silver or CMSNL, their prices are ridiculous.
