Title: Ugly Duckling to Swan in 2 years 4 months
Post by: RGP750 on March 26, 2017, 06:50:22 PM
Hi All
I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the great Guys and Gals on this forum for all of
the help and advice i have been given over the last 2 years.
Especially Ashimoto, UK Pete, James, and Mick , and Kettle738 and Trigger and Julie.
The first total ,every nut and bolt restoration i have undertaken of a Honda 4.
Just one last little thing , I fired her up today and runs lovely and ticks over like a Swiss watch
and i haven't balanced the carbs yet. The Rev counter is flying all over thec place and i assume it is the  oil damper
pot needs filling.
I have been on the SOHC forum and quite a bit on there re damper oil etc.
I have ordered oil as recommended by Lecram and should be here Thursday.
I have taken the Rev Counter apart again and i am now looking to somehow fill the pot.
Anyone done it on here???

Stunning!

Wonder what the PO (presumably in the US) would make of it now?

Thatb truly is a beautiful bike, you should be proud.
My experience of the American ideal bike would be to take something as beautiful as that and put a gordy king and queen seat and ape hanger bars on it. so probably best not to ask Chris. LOL.

Cheers again Guys.
I wonder how long it was in the US junk yard for.
Presumably the straight through exhaust was so loud he couldn't hear the cam chain rattle.
the cam was seized due to all of the swarf from the cam chain/tunnel wear 5mmx100 per side.

Hard to fault that, and I'm a picky barstewerd, so I'm told (I have judged at classic bike shows).

These may probably also have been sorted by now, but:

Rev counter cable should be inside the wire guide around the horn.

Some white cable strangeness going on possibly to the neutral switch, should be hidden, but probably temporary, I don't see all the  screws on the covers so it could be 'work in progress' when the photo was taken.

When I bought my bike the exhaust modification sticker was there on the chainguard too (I hope you didn't copy a picture of mine!) it should be on the offside swinging arm.

Ha! Ha! Mr Davo
I took the photo last weekend.
Well spotted the sticker was moved last weekend Kettle 736 pointed it out.
The taco cable may be a little short as it doesn't sit deep enough in the clip.
The white cable strangeness  was me waiting for the alternator to come back from our electric guru
on hear who re wired it for me with correct new wires.
All fitted and sorted now.

Also nice to meet Nigel there as well (K2-K6). Always good to put a face to the name.

Hi Woodside Yes thats James The good looking one ,Wish i hadn't been talking
,looks like i have has a stroke, ;D ;D ;D.
I have always hated the highly polished cases, "restores as original" THEY WERE NOT HIGHLY POLISHED
One advantage of being old i suppose ,i was there ;D ;D ;D

A friend of mine has just bought a large bead polisher...that gives a
very good finish I think more original looking than a mirror finish
Still no real panic James...I'm unsure they will fitt as my bike has a heafty bit of strengthening on the swing arm..

Great bike and superb build Rich, it really is a fabulous example and testament to your skills in bringing it back to life.

Good to see and meet with other forum people. Seems there where five of us there so a mini meeting of the SOHC south east collective, if that's the right description. Well worth a day out for any others considering it in future as it's not a very busy time of year perhaps.

Nigel.
