Title: Is this a decent buy?
Post by: AshimotoK0 on September 17, 2017, 10:31:47 AM
My diamond  mate in Japan Chris, has a mate in the UK looking for something like this (Honda CT90).. anyone know of this dealer and if the bike is a reasonable buy... The potential buyer is new to two wheels and therefore looking for a bike to use not a project.
I guess Hairygit may know ! He advised me on my brothers C90 I got for him.

If it's was good in the flesh as the photos look, grab it fast! These are very rare in the U.K. (loads in Oz though, known as postie bikes!) Obviously check that the transfer box within the casings isn't seized through lack of use, and that all gears engage. They have a crankshaft mounted  clutch that will take some getting uses to, but what a gem of a bike!

Ash - my mother-in-law lives in Lower Ufford. That's about 4 miles from Wickham Market and I've never heard of them! They must be well hidden!

James, if it was an S65 I'd buy it, but the parts for the S90 are scarce and expensive, where as the S65 engine mounting points are the same as a modern 90, so you can fit a modern 110cc motor from a Honda wave or similar, and stash the original. The 6 volt 90 engine has differently spaced mountings and needs the frame cutting and welding to fit a modern engine for everyday use.

We had Heir hunters knocking on our door a few years back .. seemed  a long distant relative from Woodbridge had died with no will.. ended up being split up between loads of us but got a cruise for the missus  out of it. visited Woodbridge when I went to DS museum launch ...nice area.

I've visited Unit 1 Motorcycles, they are just to the left as you turn into the Industrial Estate and are not easy to see.

The owners seem to be genuine, I understand that they do quite a lot of work for DS on his imported bikes. Some of the work in progress when I was there was quite complex and they seemed to be very confident with it all.

Their main business has been cars for some time, however they have now added motorcycles to it.

In summary, a small showroom with a small workshop attached, run by nice people!

Number not working for me Kenny . Do you mean this one or perhaps the one freddiethefatfrog is selling.

Problem is with small bikes (like I am finding my CD125 sloper ... 1968) they can become a money pit if you are not careful and you will never recoup your outlay. Candy painted frames, mudguards to chrome etc. Unless it's just something to run around on and enjoy and you have a fair bit of time to sort it out and get it running and on the road.

whoops you meant this one Kenny ...don't know what the price was though !

Shame about his comments on the number of watchers ("there's 82 watchers, get your finger out")

He just doesn't understand people like us  8)

The guy I mentioned is still looking for a really nice early Honda tiddler if anyone has any leads.. He missed out on James's S90. So any nice examples of that sort of bike S90, C100,C200, S65 etc..I am all ears.  I think he went off the CT90 for some reason but I notice it's still for sale. The guy who's mate it is, is my man-in-Japan Chris and he has been an absolutely top bloke to me. Some of the parts he's bid and won for me in Japan, like a Bomber front guard NOS in box for £100, rare parts for my JDM CB250K0, have been an absolute godsend ... so I would like to help his mate Andy if I can out,  as I feel I owe Chris big time ! I did fix his mum's shed roof with him in Brum though, when he was over last New Year !

Ash, I've stayed in touch with Chris and have got my eyes peeled for Andy as well. Will give you a call at the weekend for a catch up. James

Chris has just this minute spotted a bike on eBay James but I won't post link yet as that would be unfair. Going to Stafford Show  so will be out all day Sat. but Sunday fine for a catch up.
