Just adding the finishing touches to my 1977 400 Four. Please could someone advise me of the correct placement for the following stickers.
i. Tyre Size and Pressures
ii. Preserve Nature where a crash helmet.

The tyre size and pressure goes on the chainguard. Not sure about the preserve life as I haven't got one on my 400 but a guess would be on the tank somewhere. EDIT. I seem to recall the preserve life sticker goes on the centre line between the fuel filler cap and the headstock.

Well done Peter, I was trying to get a photo of mine showing the sticker on the chain guard but, too many other bikes in the way!!!

Err nope, I take it the one on the frame is a breather route? Is the one on the swing arm regarding the pillion footrests, if so my later model won't need it.

Your 400 looks great Paul, as if you went back to the 70s in a time machine and stumped up £699 for a new one.

Lovely looking bike, the yellow ones were the best colour. Where did you get the rear sprocket with the combined chain guard from, I've been trying to find one of those for two years!

The sprocket was on the bike when I bought it, the bike had been restored in 1998, and not run since, bodywork was fine, however fuel, and front brake systems needed a lot of work, but she's running well now. Regrettably I had to go for DSS ignition switch as the key was jammed in the original 😣. I don't know if there's a way to refurb the switch?

The one on the frame is the battery breather rout and the one on the swing arm is abour the exhaust :)

Regarding the stickers, I have the exhaust warning on my 500 and have been told that it was only fitted to USA and Canada models and that seems to stack up with a parts list. (A and CM area codes) Anyone remember?

So in real 'pre #@%$' terms motorcycle's are cheaper now for a given capacity then in 1976/77.
There's a 'genuine' 909 mile CB250RSA on ebay at the moment going for £4,695, they were about £799 new in 1980, that's real inflation!

As 400/4s original UK bikes are much more common than CB500s it's easier too look them out. Only found one or so (out of 25) claiming original paintwork (some with low mileages) that had the exhaust sticker. They are in a vulnerable position, but all my three US imports, with high mileages still had them.
I remember the do not modify was stamped into the exhaust of some of the bikes I had in the 80/90s.
