Purists look away now....Believe it or not, this was once a Sandcast....oh my Howdy, what were you thinking????...discuss

I assume that’s in the UK, based only on the three pin plug, a couple of years ago at the NABD rally I went over to look at a chop on a bike cleaning trade stall, only to be shocked to find it had a sandcast engine number. The mercenary part of my soul really wanted to find out who the owner was, in the hope he had no idea so I could make him a lowball offer, chuck a later engine in, then sell it for what I’d paid for it, blagging a sandcast motor in the process.

That may well be the same bike, I was a bit drunk and didn’t take a photo, and sadly there was no one about to ask. However the chances of the owner not knowing what he’d got seem slim, if he didn’t know when he bought or built it, I think somebody may have pointed it out by now.

Yeah it’s in my garage MrDavo. The bike was originally a sandcast, apparently the cases were holed back in the day so it’s now sporting unstamped diecast cases (so probably not the same bike you saw?). Has the proper K0 front end, #28 top / 5mm cable carbs, Sandcast fork lowers, double cut fender, loom, recessed ignition.
The frame is hand built and doesn’t have the sandcast headstock, so no jdea how early the motor/internals are.

Grahams rebuilding a K2 motor for me to as-new condition so this will go in the frame with a refurbished front end. I’ll probably use K0 carbs as well.

Then eventually she’ll either be used for rallys or sold on. Not sure I can bring myself to be seen riding her though..

I love it had one like it myself ,could not get on with the hard tail though
Some nice 69 goodies to be picked off that James
We all know how much proper sandcast spares bring so well worth switching over cheaper later parts

Once it has your K2 engine in it Graham they can have it and drool away....!

Funny you say that Pete the second I saw that I thought of you.
I know you tried to explain the Bobber thing to me once and it didn't go in. Try and explain the Chopper or even the hard tail thing surely there tariffing to ride. What happens when you come to a corner.

 I don't know what's worse the Yanks holing the cases no doubt through lack of maintenance or building that thing and thinking its OK  :o

To be fair, that's a soft tail rather than a hard tail, think plunger BSA, an up spring and a down spring, sod all damping though.

What's it got for a front engine mount, anything?

I doubt anything on that frame came from a sandcast, maybe the headstock, but  I think its all custom. A shame he didn't bother to hide all the wiring etc. I notice there's even an original horn.

It looks like you have the same idea as me when I saw the sandcast engine one (your right, not the same bike, the one I saw definitely had a sandcast engine number), the next owner will be non the wiser, particularly when it comes with a fresh Trigger K2 engine.
