Hi GofCarMad

Are you in a hurry or is it a slow rebuild? I've got some crankcases in my garage somewhere that I believe would just need a good clean and paint. It might take me a couple of weeks to find and check over if you can wait that long.

Hi Binman

I bought them DSS and they certainly made fiting the carbs a hell of a lot easier. It might be worth a go with the thinners idea first as it might save you a few qyuid.

cheers

Not especially proud to admit it, but it can be done, I did it reluctantly in the early eighties after a very hurried rebuild, I realised the seal hadn't seated properly. There was no time to strip the engine down again. I got the old seal out with a self tapper, cut the locating spigot off a new seal and put it in with a smear of welseal. I took it easy for a little while but had no issues, it stayed like that until the next rebuild 5 years or more later.

I'm not recommending it as an acceptable practice today, I worked to different standards then and a lot less money, also the bikes had no great value and spares, when available were very expensive, but it has been done before.

Those sagging carbs... given what a b**tch of a job it is to insert the Airbox - Manifold connector... I'm now thinking perhaps it hasn't been done... ie the carbs are simply sagging under their own weight & you'll find that connector in your Alladin's box of bits.

Having looked at the shape of a spare inlet manifold this afternoon I agree it can't be fitted upside down, it is just sitting very low in the frame. As Lobo says it looks as if it is not supported at the back.

cheers

Me too, I think the air inlet box might be on upside down. Might be worth a quick check. Welcome to the forum!

Pipes arrived today, had to look really hard to find any blemishes that make them seconds, nothing that will show once fitted and in use. Thank you Ian a real bargain.

Seems like a very attractive offer, I've ordered my set this morning.

If I'd found this before I might have rebuilt the switches instead of replacing them. Lynx, hope the switches work out okay.

Lynx, I've got a pair of old switches in the garage somewhere, electrics wise they are a bit past their best but if you after the casings they would be good donor parts. let me know if you need them and I'll dig them out in the week and confirm that they're intact. cheers Paul    :)

Simon

I've taken some photos on my phone which are too big to load here, which aren't ideal, but I won't get near a proper camera until the weekend, in the meantime if you want to PM me an email address I'll send them that way.

cheers

Hi Clem

I've found it and its a no3, it probably is NOS but is not a shiny as it could be but I'm sure it will polish up, I'd give it at least nine out of ten, if your looking for absolute perfect then you might be better getting an old one and re-chroming, but if its going on a bike that is ridden rather than trailered everywhere then I can't see that you'd be disappointed. PM me if you need more info.

cheers

Hi Clem

If you can wait a day or two until I get time toget in the garage, I'm sure I've got either a no1 or no 3 in pretty much as new condition, just can't remember which, might even be both. Anyway as soon as I get half an hour to spare I'll have a look and let you now.

cheers
