Misc / Open / How do you decide it's time to buy a new bike
« on: March 26, 2024, 10:12:30 PM »
For a long time I was contemplating selling my bikes due to struggling to ride them. But when I started riding again I was soon reminded how good they are for my mental wellbeing.I've never gone out looking for a bike. They have always been bought on a whim and they have always found me. But for some reason there's a fire burning within. I need another. I think I might be worried I'm missing out.

I've never set a budget they just have to be good value or fool me into thinking they are.

I'm incredibly indecisive
I don't have a budget in mind and struggle to part with what I own. But I would need to part with something as I can't justify another one

I'm not into cleaning bikes so they have to be tough enough to be left in crap and not dissolve

I really fancy a Suzuki GSX8R or a Guzzi Mondello at the moment. But there far too nice to leave in a state when I'm to busy to clean them.

I will inevitably just keep what I've got until that special something rears it's head

Misc / Open / Stupid Motobatt
« on: July 25, 2021, 09:23:48 PM »
I normally sing Motobatts praises but not today.
I finally broke the bikes out of a 2 year hibernation
I had both batteries out of the 750 and 550 in my haist to put them back in connected the wrong one up so reversed polarities in the 550.
Smoke pop bang everything dead is what promptly follows  :-[
Obviously its Motobatts fault  because I would never do anything that stupid.  ;D ;D
I could blame the fact I'v been diagnosed with posibble long Covid but I have already exhausted that excuse after reversing into a Scania truck that compleatly filled my mirrors and some how I didn't see it.

Other Bikes / Nitrile or Viton O ring?
« on: May 21, 2021, 03:44:05 PM »
Yesterday my Aprilia spat its front sprocket off and locking the rear wheel lucky for me at low speed not to far from home.
Aprilia being Aprilia have discontinued the O ring that sits behind the sprocket being a vital part to keep the sprocket and Circlip in place I'm now confused as to use Nitrile or Viton as I don't want it to perish and and spit the sprocket off again.
Part 24 on the attached pic the O ring is 18x3,5

Misc / Open / Why do we do it?
« on: November 22, 2020, 08:48:15 PM »
I thought I would treat my 23 year old Aprilia Pegaso to a new monoshock as the old one was totally shot.
That soon turned into refurbing the hole rear end ::) and before I knew it I'v spent £500+ on a £900 bike.
If it was a car I would have put it out of its missary years ago.

Misc / Open / Why do we pay for insurance.
« on: May 27, 2020, 07:08:30 PM »
Years ago I was invoved in a head on collision due to a car driving towards me on the wrong side of the road. I was doing less then 10mph as I was about to pull up.It bent my Transit like a bannana. It was finally settled and went 50/50
. When I complained and demanded a resson for it going 50/50 I was told it was because I was only Third party so would have no chance of wining.  :o
After that I have always gone full comp.
Last December I walked up to my van to find the rear doors were stoved in. Obviously no one left details so no one to claim against. So now another £500 out of pocket. Late January I was hit head on again because a BMW refused to giveway or even slow down. Again I was almost at a stop It was captured on film and a witness agreed it was all down to the third party not stopping.
It wasn;t just a tap on the nose I went without the van for a month as it needed a hole new front end it even bent the subframe.
Yesterday I had a phone call its been settled 50/50.
When I complained this time I got no response the person on the other end just went silent for a second and then carried on reading from his script.
I still see her driving around and she still refuses to give way and bullies other road users out of the way.
On the 18th this month I was punted across a roundabout when on the bike. Again no one to claim against.
I used the car for work today as I can't take riding the bike any longer every bump or ripple in the road is agony.I get home today to find someone has run into the back of my van again and again no details left.

Am I the only one that is honnest if I catch another car? Not that I have as I have eyes in the front of my head.

Misc / Open / Hit and Run
« on: May 18, 2020, 07:17:54 PM »
Just got back from Cambridge since it was nice out I went the long way home.
As I rolled to a stop at a roundabout in Braintree just after the college I shot forward with out warning. Luckily I stayed on it, I sat in the middle of the roundabout woundering what happen.
I had come to the conclusion that I must have knoked it into gear before I had fully  released the clutch lever. When putting the bike in the garage I noticed my reflector below the number plate was bent and numberplate was busted. On closer inspection the plastic mudguard has been stressed were it was pushed into the rear tyre and theres a cut in the tyre.

Luckily I was on the Guzzi as its a big old lump. I think if it was one of my Hondas they would have been totaled

Misc / Open / Motorcycle Camera options
« on: January 01, 2020, 08:52:23 PM »
I don't ride without a camera in my pocket just in case some plank wipes me out or some such.
But just found out commuting in the rain has taken its toll on my camera. It wasn't just wet its been bathing in my pocket. So now its destined for the bin.
Any recomendations for a small waterproof replacment. It doesn't have to be high tec just want something that will work when needed.

Misc / Open / Bike Boots
« on: April 24, 2019, 09:31:26 PM »
Trying to find bike boots for my dad is a bloody nightmare.
Due to his hemochromatosis and swelling joints he struggles to do boots up.
We are currently looking for some boots that will easily fit under textile trousers and not have zips to fasten them and ideally not be to heavy.
Any thoughts on short bike boots?

Misc / Open / £800 budget for a daily rider
« on: February 05, 2019, 08:16:52 PM »
A mate of mine is looking for a daily rider to commute 60mile a day but with a tiny budget of £800
He is a big old lump so no small bikes. When I asked what he wanted he didn't really know as hes new to bikes and he said something CBR'ish.
I'm thinking of something like a teapot.

Anyone know off or got something hiding in there garage?

Misc / Open / Do I rub people up the wrong way.
« on: September 04, 2017, 07:39:56 PM »
A few days ago the plasterer asked me what I thought about his gang on site.
My response was there shit and there holding me up as I'm having to put far to much wright.
I don't know why he flew into one as he asked my opinion.
The builder also asked me what I thought about the carpentry and my response was the same.
Today I turned up and the site was like a ghost town I asked where everyone was and was told they have been sacked.

If you want an honest answer ask away if you don't want an honest answer don't ask.  ;D

Misc / Open / Venhill throttle cables for 550k
« on: March 18, 2017, 03:24:13 PM »
Since Throttle cable B is now discontinued for the US spec 550 I will be getting A&B cables made up by Venhill so the bikes can have a matching pair.
If your interested in a set post your interest here so I can get the best price possible.

I'll give you a week before I place an order. The more there are the cheaper they get.  ;)
