CB750 / Re: CB 750s not selling?
« on: August 10, 2017, 11:32:30 PM »
This is the best one I've seen recently http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CB750-SOHC-K2/322624823147

I was the highest bidder, it fell well short of the reserve. I chatted with the seller who was surprised at the lack of interest and concluded that people just weren't prepared to pay anywhere near what he wanted for what he considered to be the best.

I see freddythefatfrog hasn't sold one either while I've been watching, but there's hope as I know of a K2 coming up shortly.

Hi Mike how's things?

I did loose some interest then I wasn't too well and sold off my final bike my second Bridgestone 350 GTR and then in a change of direction I bought a good MX5 and stuck that in the garage. But now I simply miss not having a bike, I may not ride as often as I used to so I want something reasonably collectible and pretty like a K2.
I have a few feelers out at the moment so will see if anything comes of it, but as I wrote in my post there seems to be little demand at the moment but I think if sellers were to reduce their asking prices then sales could possibly creep up.

CB750 / CB 750s not selling?
« on: August 10, 2017, 04:14:40 PM »
I've been monitoring CB750s (K2s to K6s) on eBay for the last few weeks and it's quite noticeable that they are not selling well at all, some good machines out there getting no bids or not getting anywhere near their reserve.

Anyone else noticed this? Anyone have an explanation?

O.K., the re chroming in both photos set me back just over £1000, can't remember exactly. They seem to have set prices for rims, handlebars, fuel tanks etc.

The items to be re chromed were not that rusty, just faded chrome, light surface rust and scrapes. I also had a stainless steel front mudguard polished in there too.

In answer to Ash's question, you email photos of the parts you need doing. They then get back to you with a price, I always reply with "I'm a regular and can you do a better deal? This mostly works".

Prices have risen recently but what I can tell you that this company is probably the cheapest with a turnaround time usually of about four to five weeks. I have sent individual pieces by post but most recently I've delivered and picked up whole bikes for re chroming as in this photo and the one above.

I've been looking more intensely recently for an early CB750, like many potential owners I'd like an all there decent one to restore. Problem is I'm not familiar with all the different versions so wouldn't recognize a K2 with a K4 engine fitted as presently listed on eBay or a similar mixed version. So to help I've bought this book that should be delivered early next week http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/391017579035 Hope that helps me, any advise appreciated.

So if anyone knows of anything I could possibly be interested in then let me know, not the K0 version thanks.

Just to add to Drew's choice of chromer, I have also used Chromefix on several of my full restorations, they will also re chrome two stroke exhausts.

I think my kit cost about £85? You don't need the all singing and dancing kit just the basic, it's not hard to do and I bet you would enjoy it. Instructions come with the kit.

Ash I've just realized I never answered your question regarding the GTR history.

Bridgestone only made approximately 7,500 350 GTRs from 67-70, it was their biggest capacity machine a two stroke twin with side valve carbs, chrome bores, a six speed gearbox and dry clutch, it was advertised as the most technically advanced motorcycle at the time.

Records show only about 32 came to the U.K. but few have survived, mine came from the States as many classics do now. I bought it unseen and a non runner, it had many problems and cost a small fortune to restore but it was all worth while when it took second place at Stafford in the 60s section. It was then sold to a collector.

The full restoration was covered in Tansha over three issues in early 2014. I now have another that I'm presently restoring.

Been using Megapaks for years now, he even does the m5 X .9mm pitch screws for 60s bikes, .8mm is standard.

I think the benefits that come with home plating is you get the finish you want, you can re plate many items as I have over the years and still have the same chemicals left over to do that next restoration.

Biggest bonus of all is that you don't loose that impossible to replace part that you entrusted to the local plater.

This photo link shows the original parts I re plated for my 1968 Bridgestone 350 GTR.

You can do your own zinc plating, it's easy and rewarding.

Hi Mike how's you doing?

In answer to AshimotoKO I think I prefer the K2 unless someone will let me know why another model is a better buy, I know about KOs and I presume you have one, yes expensive.

As for Derryl Mike and his collection I think he has time on his hands to decide if he wants to sell.
