I used Classics and Chrome at Hinckley on Ash,s recommendation for quite a few parts including an original Rim which was badly pitted. I think he made a reasonable job of all of them although he usually needs a couple prods to get them finished and they are nearly always a few quid more than the quoted price. I'd use them again.

It must be a Japanese thing because the Yamaha TZR250 that I restored last didn't have the bottom painted even though the top crankcase and barrels were painted black.
If Trigger paints and lacquers them all over then I think I'll do the same as I doubt that all the corrosion can be polished out.
This is after repairing all the stripped threads and broken bolts etc. caused by a PO. I think their tool kit just consisted of a stone axe.

I think it'll have to be a professional clean. I tried the cylinder head in the dishwasher and I'd probably been better with a bar of soap and a toothbrush (b*** useless.

I've finally got around to stripping the engine and a few gremlins have popped up, mostly caused by physical abuse but no excessive wear so far considering the 61k mileage.
What I need to know is were the cylinders and crankcases originally paint or lacquered finish?
Mine has been very poorly silver painted, probably with a rattle can and the alloy underneath looks dark grey.
It's going to need a lot of preparation to get it looking right and I'm not sure whether to try nitric acid solution or have them professionally blast cleaned.
Any help on this would be appreciated.

That is a lot of pennies but I guess it depends on the condition, if it's a rust bucket then the prep' could take a long time. Mine only has a bit of rust around the pilot light and I'd like to keep it original. I'll send some pics off to the plater ASAP and try to get a ball park price from him.

Going back to the original subject - re rusting reflector - what about re-silvering, my chromer gave me a contact to get it done, I got it parted from the glass ok but haven't had it done yet.
Anyone tried it ?

I buy thinners from the local car paint supplier (Central Car Paints) about £16 for 5 litres and use it for all sorts of cleaning jobs. Don't know a supplier of Wintergreen though.

If anyone has all the bits from broken or cracked ones can I suggest using an adhesive called Sci-grip SG5000-06. This is Toughened Methacrylate and I have used it successfully to repair the attachment lugs on my Yamaha which is made from ABS plastic. It will adhere really well to metal and plastics.
I buy small tubes from Glue Online. its not cheap but I found it worked really well and sets in 5 to 10 minutes.

I fitted the Avon Roadriders 90/90 front and 100/90 rear and they look OK but rear looks a bit skinny compared with modern bikes.
The chassis is almost complete and I'm about to start on the engine. (see pic)
Has anyone bought a new seat from DS. they look OK from the photos and seem almost too cheap if that's possible ?

On the advice of Chris400f I,ve bought a pair of Avon Roadriders.
Much better choice if you go for uprated tubeless type.
Looking forward to getting it on it's wheels.

I've been poking about on tyre suppliers websites and got a bit confused as I can't find matching TT (tube type) for front and rear in the the same make. Obviously they need a tube, but do they need to be TT type?
A local supplies pointed me toward Pirelli City Demon, Has anyone got experience with them?

I recently had mine powder coated black with a zinc chromate undercoat. It looks good and seems to be well attached.
£97 for frame and rear forks including sand blasting, which I thought was reasonable.

I could easily draw round mine as I've just had them BZ plated and not fitted them yet.
I'd advise at least doubling the thickness if you're making them from standard HE 30 alloy.
