Those forks are done.. I bought some replacements was cheaper than rechrome and sold the old ones. Leave top nut on a few threads and give it a few knocks with a rubber mallet.
Dont worry about the bearings if they fall out they will be tosh.. I'd replace with roller bearings! Ps you need a 3mm washer to sit under the first lower bearing on the stem, I found this out the hard way by saving money and buying the bearings direct.. think the DS ones come with the washer!

Hey sorry if I missed your reply, so I'm running 2.5 and 2.1 front rims, 100r and 110f tyres .. ! I wanted a 120 rear but advised handling not so good!

Yes rims are 2.1 and 2.5 rears, tyres are 90 fronts and 110 rear. I tried a 100/120 but I was concerned over the handling and this set up looks pretty good

Yes was baked in a booth oven. I've bought some Hammerite BBQ Paint to try.. my last engine I did in Halfords satin engine paint and it was bullet proof, I just wanted a Matt finish!, Maybe its the Matt finish?

As you can see Powder is far thicker than the painted finish.. hence why I wanted the CB painted!

If you are going for an original restoration paint is best.. and you can touch it up much easier and looks more original I suppose. I had my CB400 painted and baked in a spray booth, came out lovely... and was quite inexpensive vs powder. I've had several frames powercoated as well and wouldnt hesitate to powder coat another.. as the finish was superb and very durable far more than spray or rattle can. Paint...  Powder..

I've had lots of issues with VHT paint being fuel resistant.. baked it on and looked amazing. A small fuel leak and damaged it, it had several layers all baked on.
Out of interest how do mfrs paint modern engines.. is it powder coat or paint?

Thanks Julie, yes I can't wait for warm trips to the coast after work!! My son starts his first round of quad bike racing this weekend so all hands on that now.. fun never stops

A proud Saturday.. she passed her MOT so we can get some miles on her in the next week and then the tank can get painted. A few things to sort out still and a couple of advisories from the MOT but all good!

Actually Ogri I ended up doing that and was much better... thanks all we got there in the end, just some persistence and I learned something thanks!

Yes its just held in place by the bolt so in theory it should juts drop down. Over time its probably found itself at home and from memory mine required a gentle tap with a rubber mallet and some WD40 and she dropped out.
