I had a set of 500/4 carbs like that. I used cellulose thinners (5 gallon can bought from Kempton Park Autojumble) and let them soak for about a week.  Then good old elbow grease.

As Bryan says, check the carb balance - but anything else you do will affect this so always do it last!

There was some dissent initially at .net but as Den says, we get used to it. I can even find my way around Windows 7 now!

I will have to change eventually, it depends upon how long the 1.1.x version stays supported.

I like the ease of use of the add-ins on 2.0 - the gallery, calendar, advertising and treasury modules especially [when John transferred this site to me, the first thing I was hit with was a

Announcements / SMF 2.0: What do you think?
« on: June 18, 2011, 10:04:13 AM »
Hi everyone.

Now that SMF 2.0 has moved from the Release Candidate into full release, I was thinking of upgrading the forum.

Glenn Stauffer did this on http://forums.sohc4.net a few months ago (he was using RC5) so take a look over there and let me know what you think.

My main reason for wanting to change is that the new software has far better security and spam resistance. At the moment I get about 30-40 spam registrations per day. It only needs one to get through to swamp the boards...

Also, this version of SMF is now only updated with bug fixes as the focus has moved on.

What do you think?

There is someone here who did that on an F1 (on purpose) to facilitate engine removal. It was quite a well engineered solution.

Actually, it may have been one of the frame guys on www.sohc4.net - if you've not heard of it, register there too (use the same username so that we recognise you). They have 10x as many members as us but tend to be more US-centric

BTW - the clutch is noisy as hell; I know it's the clutch 'cos it goes when the lever is pulled in.  I'm hoping a carb balance will tone that down.

Dead cert symptoms for unbalanced carbs.

As you say, any bike show is good.

I quite like his style of presenting and his choice of bike, but to any of us who have owned one of these (I've owned three), his K3 ended up with the wrong front mudguard, wrong shocks and a Motad. Oh, and his tank painter put the tank badges in the wrong place.

Also,

Who saw this?

I only watched it because it was on between the cricket and the TT.

He is restoring a K3.

The 500 doesn't have a clutch switch.

It's not worth a pull if you're out one day and come accross a bored copper...

Yes.

Wasted spark 1+4, 2+3.  You must have a leaner mixture on the two hotter exhausts.

Get a K-model seat off eBay and just swap them when you want to ride with a passenger - those seats use the standard fixings and it looks like you have a K rear end on that.

Also, you might need a yellow number plate come MOT time (unless you have an understanding tester...)

Roadrunners on my 500s. They use modern compound but with the classic tread pattern.

Don't screw with wider tyres as they will make your handling worse. Use the (equivalent) sizes:

Front: AM20 90/90 H19
Rear: AM21 100/90 H18

It looks like that's just a cover for the exposed kickstart splines. Never seen anything like it!

You won't find many bits swappable between the 400 and the 550 I'm afraid.

If you are going to do the camshaft, do the tappets and timing at the same time. Then balance the carbs.

Do you have a manual?

That's all I've ever seen on any ferry...
