I actually did that way back in the 70's when my 500/4 failed due to a faulty horn. As I was in a bicycle shop (many MOT stations were in those days), he sold me a cheap rubber bulb horn, watched while I fitted it and promptly passed me.

I then went home and took it off (and fixed the horn eventually)

One of my bikes failed recently as the Cibie Z-beam headlamp was actually French and dipped the wrong way. No MOT tester had noticed this since it was fitted 20 years ago!
He gave me some black tape and checked the beam pattern as I masked off various bits of the lens. He then passed me and suggested that I remove that ugly black tape once I was out of his premises...

You would only get a daytime MOT of course.

Yes - forgot about those...

That could be the answer for a cafe racer.

Get a cup of coffee and settle down in front of your screen.

Comfy?

That's one way of speeding up the handling by reducing the trail...

Bryan's an ex-MOT tester so he'll know all this, but...

You must have a horn
You must have a chainguard
Not sure about mudguards
If indicators are fitted they must work

Not difficult, but if you haven't got a dyno, it's trial and error.

Getting carbs on and off is the worst bit.

I assume that his skip was full that day then?

Yes.

Feed them in from the right hand side (when sitting on the bike) and waggle them onto the inlet rubbers.

Then fit the airbox chamber.

Works for me.

K&Ns were our choice back in the 70's

You will need to re-jet the carbs though.

You get up too early Bryan...

I would have said: "Modern bikes make more induction noise than exhaust noise (at least with standard cans) which is why they have such huge airboxes. For MOT purposes (theoretically) any modification that allows more noise than standard is a fail."

But as Bryan says - those rules are not retrospective.

Welcome to the UK by the way. Smaller (but more perfectly formed) than our colonial brothers.

Mine's the other way around. 1015277 frame with a 2154987 engine.

I don't think it makes much difference really as there were very few changes in the short life of this model. The 550 had all the "upgrades"  :)
