No not the actual tacho drive housing, just the seal is needed.

I've had a look around at the CMSNL and Dave Silver sites and found the seal kits, not sure they include the tacho drive seal but they're

CB500/550 / Tacho drive seal
« on: October 30, 2011, 09:54:01 AM »
Hi folks

I'm after info on the tacho drive seal on 500/4's, I've done a search and all I could find was mention of the 750 seal.

What I'd like to know is ....are these seals as unobtanium as the Honda SOHC spares bloke at Stafford Show says they are, I thought if anyone had them he would.

Mine's pissing oil out.

And while I'm asking, I could do with renewing the main gearbox output shaft (final drive shaft) seal and the clutch push rod seal if anyone knows where to get them

I have a clutch and cover from a 550/4 and was thinking of fitting them to my 500/4, is this mod worth doing and what do you do with the hole in the crankcases where the push rod went.

TIA

Tom

I have the points in my 500/4 that came with it when I bought the bike, I use it for work every day, I bought it 27 years ago :D :D :D :D

I check the gaps every few years and they've never altered

CB750 / Re: Removing cylinder liners
« on: October 10, 2011, 07:28:52 AM »
I heated up one of my cylinders in an oven when i took it out the liners just fell out, so they are reall easy to remove and fit, although you may have to get the tops machined to be sure they are flush in new block
Pete

Same here, I used 750 liners in my CB72, heated the block with a little gas blow torch and knocked em out. I've used the oven on others.

(the 750 block had all its fins smashed off by the PO in an accident, before folk get upset at the sacrilige ;D :D)

I also found that the heads on the liners were very accurate, the blocks' counterbores are machined very accurately so the liners heads are all the same, though its easy to check them with a micrometer/digital vernier

Hi Laura, like Meerkat, I'm a newbie.

If your oil light is coming on a low revs you could do with changing oil and filter asap, and check the filter bolt to make sure the bypass isn't stuck open

Yep I have a tub of waterproof grease, normally use it on my trailer wheel bearings coz it lives outside and doesn't have body work like a car to stop the rain getting in.

I use this Clicky

As a Mech Fitter we're told never to use copaslip on ali coz of corrosion, on casing screws we get away with it coz the screw head tightened into the casing stops moisture getting in, but on the caliper pivot it can and in ali is 'sposed to react causing electrolitical corrosion.

I used normal grease and renewed the O'rings on the pivot.

I 'spose the O'rings should stop the moisture getting in ::) :D
