Hi folks. My girlfriend is doing up (I won’t say restoring) a 1982 Honda CM125, she picked it up in a horrendous condition after being stored in a leaking shed for decades, although it will live again it’s condition was that not much could be restored to original. She is bringing it back to life to be used as a winter runabout.
The frame is solid but badly pitted and now hand painted, wheels the same. I hotwired a dead loss ignition and got the engine running after unfreezing it, compression is good.
After some comments about scrapping better bikes than my 500/4 (as well as much encouragement 😊) I can just Imagine some of you recoiling in horror 😂
We are now at the wiring stage, I have repaired PO’s wiring bodges to switch gear but need a wiring diagram and wondered if anyone can point to one.
TIA Tom

After a long 7 years I have been trying to get back to my Honda 500 cafe racer. I love this bike and missed it. After divorce, death of mum, new relationships, failed relationships, new relationships, dad with cancer, covid, redundancy, unemployment, my adult daughter wedding, other daughters breakup & new partner and breakup and all the finances (bank of dad 🤪) that go with it. Plus all the race team (drag racing) work, too numerous engine builds, tuning etc, we won the Santa Pod Club Championship.
Life has distracted me.
I was so glad to log in here and see nothings changed, aah stability! Thank you everyone.
What took me away from my Honda? It was poorly and I didn’t have time to work on it, I knew I could lay it up in my garage and it wouldn’t suffer and would be there for when I had time. What brought me back to my bike? I picked up this…

Nothing special to say just chuffed with myself and wanted to say it here. .......I got my old Honda CB72 based sprinter out again after many years, it has a CL77 engine fitted with CB750 liners and +.050 pistons, I can't remember which model CB750 pistons but quite high dome. I have the 250 engine stored away too. I used it for road riding and sprinting for a few years then stored it. I had drained the tank and thought I'd done the carbs when laying it up, I should have done as they're CB750 carbs with the clip to hold the float bowl on so would be easy to do, but failed to so they were well gummed up. I stripped them out and cleaned, fitted a freshly charged battery and bumped it off, I couldn't believe when it fired first spin of the engine and chugged off on choke, I pulled the clutch in which did nothing to disengage as the plates were all stuck together so rode it for 100 yards with the clutch in until it gently freed. And why have I got it out again? because I looked online at the VED/SORN gov. site and tried to tax it which went straight through on the 40 year entitlement. I won't be riding it much but loved getting it out. All I need to do now is fit some form of kickstarting, I'm too old and held together with titanium now for the running and bumping lark. Thanks for letting me share my happiness

My 500 needs a rebore, I have spare barrels that are in poor condition but would bore out, I have two options, go to the first oversize that Cruzinimage do with the barrels on the engine, or using the spare barrels, use a CB550 big bore kit to take it out to 600. A 600 is always something I wanted to do.
My question is - Are the 500 and 550 barrels the same dimensions, obviously not the bore but the sleeve thickness and any other sizes that may be affected, will the 500 barrels take the 550 big bore kit out to 600?

MatthewMosse asked about my sidecar outfit, here ya go matey, it ain't fancy, I built it for £150 for me and the kids to muck about in/on, it has a CB750K7 tank (I think), CD175 seat held on with a bungy, superdream headlight brackets and CD185 headlight (again, I think), forks are lowered dropped through the yokes, and a 2CV rear wheel bolted to a comstar hub. On the 2CV wheel I left the welded on brackets unpainted so stress cracks would show up, none appeared and I ragged hell out of the thing. Just about every bit of the frame has broken at some time, the swing arm snapped in half once, I've welded it all back together each time it broke and braced at the same time to stop it doing it again, I got sick of replacing spokes in the back wheel which was cured by the 2CV wheel, the fronts still break but riding with the chair in the air to the sound of squealing kids doesn't help them. Just my little lad interested now as the older kids have their own cars, and me and him bomb around on my Old Yamahaha, not the one in my avatar, I have a 1.1 Sport with two seats as well so the outfit is sat in me garage.

Anyone got any info/ideas please. Riding to work a few weeks ago I lost 4th gear, I've been too busy to look at the bike but thought I'd ask before making plans to delve into the box. I'm just coming to the end of another rebuild with parts everywhere so didn't have time or space to do the Honda and have been using it for the work run by short-shifting through 4th. It appears to go into gear, so the selector mechanism seems to work, but doesn't drive, I get rattling like its trying to engage if I try to drive through 4th and when this rattling happens I get a pulsing on the clutch lever mimmicking the noise, as if the dogs are worn and its trying to work but pushing the clutch shaft slightly. Is this a known fault like 2nd gear on early Yamahahahas, or is it just old age and use showing up. I have a 550 donor bike that may donate its engine to keep me OTR for now. Any ideas from you experts would be welcome. BTW, the rebuild I'm busy with included fixing the 2nd gear on the Yamahaha

Hi folks
I'm after info on the tacho drive seal on 500/4's, I've done a search and all I could find was mention of the 750 seal.
What I'd like to know is ....are these seals as unobtanium as the Honda SOHC spares bloke at Stafford Show says they are, I thought if anyone had them he would.
Mine's pissing oil out.
And while I'm asking, I could do with renewing the main gearbox output shaft (final drive shaft) seal and the clutch push rod seal if anyone knows where to get them
I have a clutch and cover from a 550/4 and was thinking of fitting them to my 500/4, is this mod worth doing and what do you do with the hole in the crankcases where the push rod went.
TIA
Tom

Anyone know if WRM470S is still going, it was my first decent bike. I bought it in '83, beautiful metalic maroon, loved that bike, took me and MrsTom on our first hols camping, happy days.
