CB500/550 / CB500K2 carb bit« on: May 26, 2024, 08:55:25 AM »
I give my wife bits to sell on eBay to keep her sweet and to promote tolerance of by obsession.
She listed a 500 carb plate and lifter rod and someone message to see if she has brass bushes etc ...see pic ..but I can't even see anything like that on my own set of 627B carbs so she can't really help him out. I thought he may have been getting confused with later PD carbs (that I have no experience with) but he says its for a 500K2... She told him to join us on here and ask for help but it's difficult conversing details on eBay (phone/email etc) for the fear that eBay police get onto you for attempting to deal without going through them. This would deffo have been a question for Ken ! I do recognise the other bits. [ Guests cannot view attachments ] 3

Misc / Open / Gripe about Dropbox« on: May 17, 2024, 07:19:44 AM »
I started with a free Dropbox account yonks ago and quickly needed more storage particularly hosting the manuals etc on here.
Everything worked OK until I ditched my local internet provider (KCom) and I lost my old email address. I forgot to change over my email address to my new Gmail one and they keep asking me to verify my account by sending an email with a pass-code to my old email address which I no longer have access to, before I can log in again. Despite moaning to them and the case being escalated because I threatened to cancel my subscription (£120 p.a.) if they don't sort it out and plaster their inadequacies all over social media, they won't allow me access to my account until I provide them with data I don't remember ... like 'the last file you uploaded' and 'exact joining date' etc. They refuse to send me a texted code like any other provider such as Lloyds Bank or HMRC do. I even sent them copies of proof of payment by PayPal for each moth but still they refuse to give me access to my account. Anyone else have problems ? Suggestions? Luckily I can access my Honda data by coming on here and using my Dropbox links ... ludicrous ! 8

Anorak's Corner / Anyone used ABS Slurry to fix side panels etc« on: May 11, 2024, 09:28:38 AM »
Someone on the CB250RS Facebook closed group suggested I try ABS slurry to fix cracks and broken mounting lugs on plastic side panels etc.
I thought back to the 90's, when I couldn't buy the correct angle guttering joints for my 1030's house and some old sage where I was working at the time (who had an immaculate BSA Gold Flash Combo) cut a section out of one to reduce the angle and bonded it back together at my required angle with a paste made up out of the waste material dissolved in MEK. They bonded beautifully and are still on my old house when I went past earlier this year. Has anyone tried this? I guess the panel materials will have changed over the years. I think the 250RS panels are ABS but I seem to remember my 750K0 panels and airbox were made from some form of styrene. But I guess the theory is the same... dissolve a piece of the same material in a suitable solvent and use that to repair the panel. This what the FB guy said: Quote : "Google abs slurry,,, and make some .... glue it on with it ,then build it up round the crack ( takes a day or two to fully cure) permanent fix ... I glued 2 halves of a panel together with it .... you could bend it as much as the parent material , it doesn't glue, it bonds. I have tried epoxy, fibreglass glues, nothing does it like abs slurry" https://www.matterhackers.com/news/how-to-make-abs-juice-glue-and-slurry 10
Anorak's Corner / Metal Covered Plug Caps« on: May 05, 2024, 10:18:41 AM »
My UK 750K0, CB400F & 450K0 Bomber all came originally with metal plug caps.
Much maligned on here I know but for originality I am fitting them. I managed to get NOS ND ones for my 4 cylinder bikes but the Bomber ones are hard to come by. also one of my NOS 4-cyl ones got badly damaged with acid. So this week I managed to de-crimp the corroded one and replated a grotty looking Bomber one. Pretty sure my CB250K0's and K2 would have had them but not found any of those yet. I plan to do some tests on them to see why they tracked over the HT in the wet. It's not obvious looking at them why they would track. I suspect the rubber insert may not have sealed too well but a new part moulded in silicone may fix it. A lot of heathen dealers (like the one who supplied my 1st 400F ) just ripped the metal covers off and damaged the grey plastic body in the process. [ Guests cannot view attachments ] 11

CB350/400 / Alternator loom clip« on: March 08, 2024, 10:19:47 AM »
Does anyone have a decent pic of a 400F with the alternator loom clip fitted please. A photo of that oil pump area with the cover off (obviously) would be great. Revisiting my 1986 resto of my '75 400F and correcting things that I didn't fuss too much about when I was a younger man ! Where riding was more important than restoring.
