Just got a notification it’s down to $100 dollars for postage about £80, that is shipped with USPS.

That figures indeed Bryan, I made contact with the sellers and they told me they will send it with the Post office.

Well one step forward today and two back! Was freeing or trying to free the piston rings from their grooves, managed the bottom and middle one but unfortunately broke the top ring. I’ll get a new set from the states just $33 plus costs, at least they are available. Will probably order a new fuel tank too which I’m sure I’m going to need. It is fitted within the bottom plinth/base.

Tricks & Tips / Re: For the machinists amongst us!
« on: April 13, 2024, 10:15:18 PM »
Just a quick note to tell you of a workaround.  I needed to reface a very badly pitted exhaust valve from a Fairbanks Morse stationary engine - 7/16" diameter.  I didn't want to use a 3 jaw as I knew it would chatter (slightly worn jaws) but only had a 12mm 5C collet.  Slid some heat shrink sleeving on the valve stem and warmed it up to shrink it.  Fitted the collet perfectly and produced a lovely finish on the valve seat face!  The heat shrink sleeving is so thin and the collet has so much radial contact that it was a very rigid set up.

I used to be an engineer but I'm OK now!

Beginning to realise how much you are asked and do for other people Ian! You’re a victim of your own talents. Thanks very much for machining my old rusty piece of junk! O’ and thanks for the tea, again!😜

Very sad indeed Ted for you and your family. Both my daughters are carers in the local centre for adults with challenging behaviour and compromised ability at all levels. I couldn’t do their job, but that’s their chosen occupation, they never speak of their jobs and we don’t ask. Confidentiality and all that. All too often these service users don’t have a very long life which does bring much sadness when they lose someone.🥲

For anybody that is interested. I fully intended to leave this old lump till winter but because the weather has been quite crap recently I just can’t walk past this thing without doing something. She is fully stripped down with cam and exhaust valve rocker and governor mech taking a bath in a bucket of diesel. Haven’t found anything drastic as yet.

Sounds like fuel issue alright. Electrical delivers to 1&4 and 2&3 cylinders of course.
