Title: On the road at last!
Post by: MarkCR750 on May 07, 2016, 07:44:15 PM
Got my bike MOT'd etc yesterday, still got lots of bits to improve/change and a CR750 paint job is also required but so far so good, done about 70 miles and nothing has fallen off, not even me!, here's a couple of photos

Standard cam/engine John, I have another engine that I will eventually do a big bore/hotter cam etc, the only performance enhancements at present are the K&N's , larger jets and 4 into 1, it's debatable whether these are increasing or decreasing the HP of course!, the biggest performance enhancement is the weight reduction, in comparison to the standard bike the tank/seat/exhaust weigh nothing, there are no mudguards, everything that's not needed has gone, the only bits that have added weight back on are the fairing and associated bracketry which don't weigh much, it goes really well, I'll get it on the dyno soon (with instructions for them to be gentle!) to check the fuelling and get it all set up as well as possible, and yes your right it sounds glorious 😀

Ha, I'm having to take it in 20mile stints, it's not so much my back but my wrists, reminds my why I sold the Fireblade , and getting back on the XJR feels like a comfy sofa 😀

Thanks for the kind comments Derckey/spitfire, it's certainly getting a lot of attention out and about, I've even had car drivers at traffic lights winding their windows down and saying stuff like "nice bike mate, is it the same as the one on the honda advert?", it's all very nice of course but each time I go to ride off someone stops me and asks questions about it, the novelty might wear off a bit due to that!😀 (Only kidding it's good that they are interested ).

Thanks all, just got back from yet another ride, it's addictive , got to wait for the novelty to wear off a bit before I'll have time to make the 101 changes/improvements reqd, it actually rides surprisingly well, front brakes are very good, can chirp the front tyre at above 30 , so far so good!.

Don't whatever you do lock up the front wheel !!
To see what happened, I did this in the wet on the Embankment in about '76 when I was a despatch rider on my CB250 K2 and ended up right on my arse. A bit surprising for anybody following.
Ride safe

I should have explained that I was testing the brakes when braking to the point of "chirping" the the tyre, I wouldn't usually brake that hard, I too have locked the front once when a car swang across my path in the rain, on a CX500 years ago , the front folded and I was well on the way to a low side when the good lord intervened and straightened me up, I don't actually believe in God but it's the only explanation I have for not falling off that day ! 😀

I did a training day once where we had to lock the front to get over the fear of it happening. With no lean it's not that bad.

Took the CR out for an airing today, fired first press of the button, I'd put that down to having used fuel stabiliser and firing her up every couple of weeks, I'd forgotten just how nicely she rides so have decided to take it to the TT this year, although I'll probably transport to Heysham in a van, 142 miles in one stint is a bit much for that seat 😄, it'll be great to take her over the mountain etc, anybody else going?.

I've been to the classic John, saw mcguiness and agostini do the 1969 hailwood reenactment, great event , great to see all the old race  machines in action , less crowded than the TT as well, talking of race machines I saw this at Matlock Bath today, followed him down the A6, what a nutter 😄

LoL

  that would be something,

I remember sometime around late 1960's a german sidecar racer ,may have been Klaus Enders,or sideways Siggy,,their van broke down
on the way to the ferry ,so they unloaded the outfit, and rode to the docks, through the tunnels etc !!

those 500 BMW would have sounded awesome !!!

That photo with the CR was taken at  the large layby on the A6 just north of Ambergate if I am not mistaken?

Correct, an alternative coffee stop to Matlock bath.
