He's put new fuel in it and also filled up with the higher octane fuel as well, made no difference. But, if it sits there not being ridden from say September to April each year and then only does 300-400 miles per year, would the fuel somehow cause gunge or similar to build up in the carbs ?. The bike has always run great, I take it out sometimes as well, but from the first ride out this year it wouldn't idle.

Thanks Guys. I have found Seafoam and 2 other products on Amazon. BG4KK and Profi Fuel Max. He will probably try one of these as a quick fix and then a complete carb clean and overhaul in the winter. Even though the bike is 14 years old it's only done 4200 miles (and he brought it from new) so it does sit around doing not much an awful lot of the time. He's in to his 1950/60 British classics but likes a scream around on the R1 every now and then.

A friend of mine has a 2001 Yamaha R1 (one of many bikes he has but sorry, no Hondas, idiot !!!)which runs like a bag of S**T at idling speed. Before he rips the carbs off have any of you ever used something like Seafoam, or similar and if you have which product was it and was it any good. Ta in advance Julie

There will always be a subtle difference between us girls keeping bikes and bits indoors and when you boys do it. I still hoover and dust around the bike, there is never any oil or grase on the floor, the tools are all put back in their boxes when not in use, there are never any oily rags left laying around, and they get a hotwash every now and then. But the main difference is that no one dare have a go at us about it, or there will be no dinner on the table and no clean clothes for a week!!!. I reckon us girls have got it made really

Personally Trigger I have never seen the problem with bike bits or whole bikes indoors, why be cold and uncomfortable working in the garage when it's -10 and blowing a blizzard outside when you can be lovely and cosy indoors. I also feel that dishwashers, ovens and sausepans are under utilised when just used for cooking the dinner and getting the dishes clean afterwards. Make the most of what you have I say.(Still waiting for someone to try cleaning bike bits in the pressure cooker though, I'm not that brave !!!). The truth now.....I live on my own these days but when married I still had his and my bikes indoors, they look great with tinsel, fairy lights and balls on at Xmas. Anyway, must move all the front brake caliper bits off of the worktop, batch of fairy cakes coming out of the oven.

Im no expert but mine's not far off as good looking and sparkley as that one, and it gets a ride out 2-3 times a week (weather permitting of course!!). Moved her into the conservatory today for the winter, central heating, tv, blablabla, I like to tinker in comfort.

I had a slight clutch drag on 400 when I got it. Dont know what oil it had in it but changed oil and filter and used some oil my dad used to put in his Hilman Hunter back in the day, just loked on can (very rusty) and its castrol GT. Asda do Castrol 10/40 semi synthetic, so may have to use that next time.

Welcome from Dungeness. Used to live the other side of the South Downs, on top of the hill in Crowborough. Now down at sea level, well under sea level at times !!!. The chaps on this forum are great, a good laugh and very knowledgeable. They advise me on fast idle speeds etc and I advise them on enemas and uses for Soda Bicarbonate for skin burns !!! Fair trade I think. Good to have you with us
