New project in progress and I think I may need a bit of help.
the bike is a 1979 CB250T Dream which has a lot of good attributes but it would seem difficult to source some parts as they were only made 78/79 for uk
they are the USA Hawk equivalent which may help out a bit
A few pics of how it stands now - before i see it in the flesh so to speak
Bits to find
Rear inner mudguard underseat and plastic
Rear grab bar indicator stalks

Original exhaust - pattern parts available
Paint job - no probs
Sticker set - on internet maybe piki has them
Original 5 speed Dream engine
Side reflectors
Front Brake Caliper - I have an F2 spare if this will fit?

just waiting for the courier to deliver later this week
any help appreciated
PS Brown Cafe Racer Seat available for trade as I won't be needing it if anyone has a set of dream Wheels available or £? for straight sale

Here's one I left behind in the 'Crawley' garden.. a bit far gone methinks !
I got the 450K0 Bomber frame in front of it though ;)

I had a blue one around about 1980, went all round Wales on it, lovely bike to ride for a 250. About a week after I got back some git stole it >:(

Bike arrived and started the first build to see what i have and what i need - all the bits out of box and loose fitted
Turns out its an Irish bike which i bought from Scotland to now live in Yorkshire - low miles but been around UK a bit
Bike starts and runs ok - (No Chain fitted yet) Once sump plug was tightened up
F2 caliper fits front brakes so sorted on that
Seat requires replacing DS if need be?
Dream ears for headlamp
Rear indicator stalks=Indicators
Rear Light- ebay
Fitted a 400/4 rear guard temp fit - Old mudguard was cut in 2 so going to attempt to rejoin, sort rot out and re chrome as you cant seem to find original or pattern replacements the one i bought was supposed to fit even invoice said 400/4

I think those are the standard wheels

From what I am informed the standard wheels had the black caps at the end of the spoke/rim joints
Don't think they are Dunstalls, but look tidy and similar to Dunstall - The noise ain't what a dream should sound like though.
New replica seat now fitted and bike primed ready for paint later on, I had to lose that dark purple colour.
Electrics all work just missing one rear indicator stalk

Sourced some spares with all original parts that i needed plus spares to start another one - this bike has been in bits for over 25 years - engine turns over with good compression so I have a good frame original wheels and an original engine to work with
still need the missing indicator stalk from rear

Playing with the new old original engine today - I am told it had not been run since 96.
Took lid off and checked everything
Dropped some oil into bores
Clutch still free
Fitted it -
Filled it with oil
New plugs
She fired up after a few spins.
Once the oil had burnt away ticked over like new

This is a super little bike. I always thought it looked so much better than the Super Dream and could never understand why it was dropped after one season. As I recall it had the comfiest seat ever and felt bigger than a 250 to ride.

Bike now transferred onto the new donor frame with its original engine fitted.
I was going to rebuild the Irish bike ( Purple One) back to standard, but someone had chopped a bit off the frame. I dropped on the spare frame and engine with a few more bits I needed and decided to rebuild from the frame up.
Once i had the engine running I started the transfer and sent the harness off to Big Al to make a new one, so the bike would be as sound as possible. Cleaned treated the frame new bearings and bushes. Then a straight swap over.
It seems you can no longer get the original rear mudguard for UK spec as these were slightly longer than us spec, the original has been chopped and is really poor, may try getting it welded back up and re-chrome later but for now I have used a 400/4 rear mudguard and adapted to fit - looks close to original, rear light mount points were different so I will have to do something to mask this?
I bought a replica seat from DS as the original had been defoamed and chopped about. I stripped it down to loose the fiberglass base as the seat base was ok just needed sorting and rebuilt back to standard.
Bought a new grab bar from japan but really struggled to find indicator stalks. I eventually found out that the CX500 had the same fittings
The wheels are now all cleaned and painted awaiting new bearings and tyres, once the harness arrives she should be up and running ok.
Primed the paint work to loose the purple, it's going to be red once it's done.
Got most of the main work done - Still to do
Polish alloy on engine it is really heavily oxidised at moment been stood out of bike for that long
Wheel Bearings, Tyres, Sort brakes - wrong front disc & new rear shoes needed
new exhaust system front to back
New handlebars if possible they seem to be discontinued and chrome is a bit gone - could always have them re-chromed I suppose.

Started work on the paint and thought i would ask piki for a price on decals if he could help out
Quick response and he can do some parts for me and will look into tank decals.
He is posting me what he can and instead of payment suggested for a donation to the site

The decals will really set it off, great looking bike. I always liked these in the late 70's, I wanted one but as I only started riding in late 78 on a 1966 CB160 a 250 was beyond my wildest dreams!
As an aside and not wishing to hijack your thread, I was offered an immaculate 1968 Vellocette Venom Thruxton by a close family friend in 1978. He offered it to me for 225 pounds, I was on apprentice money of 24quid a week and couldn't afford it and the insurance. He PX'd it at the local Honda dealer, D&H in Acton I think for a new CB900 plus he gave THEM cash :o.
How much are Velo Thruxton's worth these days, 20k+, Morale of the story, buy your dreams and sod the money :D .

My first ever pillion ride was on a 250 Dream. I couldn't believe how comfortable and smooth it felt... compared to my Puch Maxi moped!
Keep up the good work. To me, all bikes and cars look better as standard (that comment will probably start a thread from all the customiser boys!).

Remember moped days well - if it was a big hill start pedalling - mine was a mobylette belt driven.
I changed the head over, I cant remember off what to get a bit more speed must have taken me to 30 mph on a down hill with wind behind me

Just received log book for first CB250 Dream we have restored from DVLA
It was first registered October 1977 The irish plated Purple one we started with was a 1979
The now red one has the matching frame and engine and starting to look good with all the right bits in place
So if I am right in October this year she will become a Historic Vehicle and Tax-Free
Is it just a change on the V5 or something more in depth to change taxation class?

Bike 2 CB250T is in boxes but will be next and last project bike built out of the bits left over so it will not be original by anyway

Lovely job Coppertop. Good to see the lesser known SOHC's are not forgotten. Should look and ride great when the final bits are added.

That looks great and always preferred the Dream to the Superdream (although I had one). Well done - a credit to you.

nice job. i also prefer this to the superdream, even though i had 5 after the other. great work bikes but i still find it comical that people are restoring them now! reminds me of a comment made by the vmcc many years ago about red panthers being classed as vintage. one old boy was quite angry with the fact that "vintage runs would be swamped by the things"!
