Suppose I have obtained a second petrol tank and side panels for my motorcycle that are a different colour to the original. I want to enjoy the options, but do I have a legal issue with the bikes documents now?

My beloved Honda CB400F2 was officially registered as 'Historic' on April 1st in that she is 40 years old, as most of us know that means I didn't have to spend £66.00 on road tax or £35.00 on an MOT certificate, nor will I have to anymore at all. But the real saving is that I will not, unlike most people after April 12th, have to pay £12.50 a day for the privilege to ride in central London! The new ULEZ is Sadiq Khan's stealth tax for his pet projects I bet, because very few people drive in central London if they don't need to, and it means many people will simply take the long way around. I know how to navigate the place and on two wheels so I go there often, it helps having heritage between my legs!!! To check if you are affected (you probably are not) here is the ULEZ checker... https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/vrm-checker-ulez?fbclid=IwAR1wvdHPzUNlgxQ6F2rpCDIg3aRKk7pjn8GqNn4KdVSYg_DuL7gqrU_FuRE

This is remarkable, I just discovered something by accident. You see the Squirrel in a Hawker Hurricane I've been using as an avatar? Obviously it was photoshopped we aren't THAT nuts, but what I hadn't realised is the human it is replacing is the father of someone I knew very well. He was the adjutant of the Battalion I was in! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Stanford_Tuck

I noticed my centre stand when up is in contact with my exhaust and I'm not sure that should be the case as nowhere can I see a rubber cushion I'll swear exists to stop that ....?

Getting ready to return my clutch cover housing and while checking what to do I find two arms on the kick start return spring. The long one is simple enough, hook onto rib on crankcase as seen in manual, but same manual is not clear about what to do with the short arm if anything needs to actually be done. I see nothing making itself obvious either......is there?

Spot the peanut? Spot the culprit? Yesterday it was a walnut behind the cylinders, maybe like roast nuts too?

In the next few days I'll have (hope) finished what I'm doing and back on with the exhaust system. Last time I tried replacing the missing exhaust gaskets but hey got so chewed up in my atempts I did what someone else might have done before and gave up with them. Are they very important and is there an easy way to fit them?

I'm in the process of taking the clutch cover casing of my CB400F2 for paint stripping and polishing thereafter, and to let me paint the other casing next to it. As you see in the image I've got as far as removing the bolts and obstructions. It obviously doesn't want to come off easily and I'm loath to start sticking a screwdriver or something between it and the crankcase cover. Is there an easy/proper way to do this. Also, when I put it back together is there anything this amatuer is going to find difficult. I've noticed it's a bit leaky around the kickstart shaft, new seal needed probably but from where?

What is the best way to protect the paint on a motorcycle fuel tank from fading and scratching where it tends to meet the groin often? I've bought some sticky film but I'm not sure I trust it, I don't want to stick a pad there either.......

I can't afford to get my clocks done professionally just now (me thinks) I've repainted them and pulled the Tacho open and hand painted the red line back. I'm happy enough with the result except the rimp rings, especially the one I prised off (bit by bit) . Is replacing them something I could expect to manage myself, is the a technique/tool for the job?

I went to replace my newly painted Rocker Box Cover and like every second thing I take of this CB400F it doesn't want to go back on. It just will not sit flush on the cylinder head, close the gap on one side and it opens on the other. I can't see anything obstructing it. Referred Haynes to manual and saw there is sequence of bolt tightening to follow, ok...but 'make sure tappets are slackened first'... does this mean I have to slacken the nuts I see through the inspection covers? I can't think why. Not enough daylight to work where I am now so I hope someone can help for tomorrow?

I'm going to paint the clocks and the front brake calipers of my CB400F2...it's clear someone has done this before and not too well. They are gloss just now but I suspect it should be satin?

I've bought a spray can of engine paint for my CB400F2. On the can it says 'dries at ambient temperatures and resistant to 180 degrees centigrade. Is that good enough? My oven gets hotter than that, I've got cold feet!
