I couldn't resist posting this police bike picture from the 1930s.....  ;D

Misc / Open / Sourcing over flow tubes
« on: August 02, 2023, 01:20:03 PM »
Is it really necessary to spend so much on carb overflow tubes and fuel pipes as seen on cmsl/DSS?

Misc / Open / Calliper holder pin seized
« on: July 30, 2023, 12:34:15 PM »
I dismantled the front brake callipers on my CB400F2 this morning after noticing the calliper holder wasn't being effected by the spring that is supposed to position it, that hasn't actually stopped the brakes working so it may have been like that for years even. My problem is the pin is so seized I'm wondering what to do, I've already caused some Sunday morning complaints with my efforts to release it. I've also damaged a park bench downstairs using the slats for a vice, I don't have the luxury of a workshop. I end up going on the CMSL diagram to make sure there is a pin going through there. Any suggestions?

Misc / Open / Low emission zones.
« on: July 29, 2023, 11:39:14 PM »
Being a historic vehicle my CB400F2 is exempt the ULEZ charge that is soon to be expanded to the whole of Greater London to prop up ailing TfL (enough politics or I start fuming) but is this peculiar to London, or is it the norm with low emission zones around the country? I don't want to get into trouble if I go north of Watford.  ;)

CB350/400 / Warm starting issue
« on: July 28, 2023, 08:27:16 PM »
These past few weeks I've found it very hard to start my engine again if I switch off with a hot engine. Keeping my finger on the starter and closing the choke usually gets me going again....any ideas?

CB350/400 / Final drive seal
« on: July 26, 2023, 09:19:47 PM »
Is the final drive seal at the sprocket a seal that can be changed without splitting the crankcases?

CB350/400 / Gauge face screws
« on: July 25, 2023, 04:04:50 PM »
Does anyone know the size of the four screws that retain the speedo and tacho faces, and indeed where to get them. CB faces and CMSL haven't produced a result. Some of mine are pretty rusty and I'd rather replace them than clean them up.

Misc / Open / Any danger curing Simoniz?
« on: July 25, 2023, 09:46:07 AM »
I want to cure my oil filter housing and sump pan in the oven after painting with Simoniz, will 220 dec for a couple of hours do? People speak of wanting an old oven rather than the one in the kitchen.... any reason for this that matters?

Misc / Open / Leaky fuel tap
« on: July 21, 2023, 02:44:01 PM »
It looks like I've got a leaky fuel tap, experiment ahead. With fuel line off the tap was dripping even in the off position. Can a fuel tap actually be fixed though, paying more then £70.00 for a US spec one I'd prefer to avoid.

Misc / Open / Rip off!
« on: July 17, 2023, 05:08:13 AM »
I just went downstairs to fill the squirrels boxes and saw Elen stood there stark naked, someone had stolen the new bike cover I bought for her a few weeks back and I had to use the old one again.  :o  If I find out who it is I'll go around their place and steal their bed clothes!

Misc / Open / Speckled rust on header pipes.
« on: July 15, 2023, 01:37:14 PM »
Before I enter into too much sweated labour, is the speckled rust one finds on the header pipes especially close to the cylinder head the sort of rust one can remove or is it too much from under the chrome?

« on: July 15, 2023, 04:45:30 AM »
I found this webpage while searching for something else, it is about the start of motorcycling in Japan and their first motorcycle features in it, interesting for some us I'm sure! https://thevintagent.com/2017/09/20/japanese-motorcycles-the-early-days/

The image here is my current screen saver, I'm really interested in the very classic looking bike she is on, but does anyone know what it is?

CB350/400 / Earth nuts in headlamp
« on: July 11, 2023, 06:30:19 AM »
Are the earth nuts on both sides of the headlamp shell interior meant to have a single terminal like the one in the picture here, or have separate ends? I've seen both on the internet now, whatever mine are a bodge and one is rusty as hell so I want to replace, but which is it?  ( BTW...Earth nuts, that is what the Germans call peanuts!  ;D )
