Valves probably not but definitely change the seals, tensioner is expensive but worth changing as old rubber goes hard and can break causing disassters

OK to use if no sieze marks, ring grooves ok and clearance in bore within spec, probably corrosion from not being used a lot

Where  do you get a £50 rebore, all round here want £25 per hole and for the 600 kit it's more as you have to bore the block for  the liners then the liners for the pistons so more like £60 per hole with removing liners

CB750 / Re: Which Engine Oil should I use ?

Considering the service change of 1500 miles, when i also think the filter should be changed, there is no need for the extra expense of the "modern" motorcycle" oils which even the manufacturers like Fuchs admit to being standard oils in a more expensive can

Std 550 are 12th oversize 500 ones (+3.0mm) and the bores can be done but expect to pay more for 550 than 500 and the rebore will be dearer due to number of passes of bar

Isnt the oil feed/return path from the rockers different on the F2, hence the domed head nuts and copper washers

CB500/550 / Re: Timing
« on: November 23, 2016, 03:56:43 PM »
You must first set the 1-4 gap to exactly 0.35mm or 14 thou NOT 13 or 15. Then try setting the static timing with a bulb connected from the points spring to earth--NO need to disconnect capacitor.

You will find that as you rotate the plate to adjust the timing that the gap at the points will change, this makes for a frustrating half hour or so to get BOTH the gap and timing spot on.

Then you play the same game with 2-3.

Till you have done it a few times you will curse, threaten give up for tea(or a beer) but eventually you will get it right
