Post by: sprinta on March 03, 2019, 10:32:02 AM
I see that there is a sandcast for sale at 2WS.

Currently at just over £15K and not met reserve.

I saw that too....Graham had a look over the photos and found quite a few not correct parts fitted, exhaust system for example.
Its also strange that it has such high mileage, not unheard of but USA imports are usually very low mileage.

I know that I am suspicious by nature but why is a bike that literally flew off the showroom floors when introduced, advertised as being 68/69 but not registered until 1970? In the case of my Commando, it's because people were buying CB750's etc. Having said that, in the few dealing that I've had with 2WS they've always been 'straight'. Experience also tells me to be suspicious of someone else's restoration, especially if you don't know them or you may be phoning 'Trigger'.

I laughed at the ‘crinkly bottom’ fuel tank. Noel Edmunds’ lawyers will be in touch soon.

I’ve been to America and didn’t notice the air being any thinner. Do we have thick air? If so, why?

More than that Sye if the mileage is correct, (no reason it shouldn't be), and the engine hasn't had a major overhaul,(no evidence to suggest it has) then it will be needing a major overhaul very soon. These sandcast engines are not cheap, or easy to overhaul. How do i know this.....I type the Invoices  ;D

I guess US air is like that of a mountain - the higher you go the thinner the air gets, and he does say it came from North America......just saying..........

I think its just their usual way of saying that the climate is better and therefore motor vehicles are preserved much better over the years than they are in the uk for example.....as is obvious to anybody who has purchased a usa classic machine. Also they tend more often to be weekend toys and thus many dont get used in bad weather, even back in the 70’s, when the americans were a bit like we are now i.e. they had multiple cars and bikes as toys not just as commuters. Plus the Yanks tend to shove them in the back of the garage when they are bored of them rather than trading them in so they end up sitting there for years unused and thus have low milage. of course this is not 100% true of all usa machines, its just a tendancy.. If I was going to look for another classic bike to restore I would definitely be checking out their stock...  :)

Some of the areas have much move significant winters than us,  so common to lay them up for chunk of the year. Think they have insurance policies based on that usage pattern as well,  ie .basic cover when stored and reverts to riding between certain dates.

A friend in Rhode Island worked for a bike dealership that also stored bikes for military personnel while away on service overseas,  they were all racked up in big barns to be readied on demand.  Season and miltary service constraints dictating.

Well it didn’t sell, although somebody was prepared to shell out a fair wedge (£15k) on a project..... looks like 2ws were a bit greedy with the reserve?
