Hi all
I've been lurking for a couple days and thought it was time I introduced myself and my new project. It's a 74 CB 500 K2 which looks far better in the photographs than it does in reality. There are quite a few missing or non standard parts and the wiring is a mess. Looking on the bright side it's not seized and seems to have decent compression. I'm not sure what I'm going to do in terms of restoration. I'd like to get it back as close to original as possible but think the cost might be too high for me. The first thing will be to try and get the engine running and then I'll take it from there.
I've already found some fantastic information and guidance on this forum which I am sure will help me along the way. I'll let you know how I get on.

Welcome, if its a UK bike its a K1 we never had K2 but if you post the frame number i can give you an aproximate build date

I sent the frame and engine number to David Silver and it was they that told me it was a K2. I was wondering why I couldn’t find any reference to a UK K2!
The frame number is CB500 204 2047
Engine: CB500E-2126149

Welcome !.. A friend has just bought a project CB500K2 import and it has the larger clocks. Is that correct Bryan/Oddjob?

Import K2 has larger clocks, American K1 has small clocks butfull chrome backd with angled entries and a different angle mounting plate

Thanks for the info. I'm still unclear as to whether the bike is a K1 or a K2. The clocks certainly look quite large, they are 4 inch diameter at the clock face. I had a CB550/4 for some time a few years back and I seem to think the clocks were smaller on that.
