I have some bad marks on my No 1 exhaust header where my leather key fob was touching and has kind of melted some gunk on to the chrome which has baked itself on well and truly
I have tried a number of solvents but can shift it
I have some pretty aggressive paint stripper I was going to try to see if that softens it but not sure of what effect paint stripper may have on the chrome
Also any other bright ideas

Wonder wheels does a great job on chrome and is a mild acid, so should remove the crud too.

May work but this stuff is HARD baked on, I did try cellulose thinners, petrol, paraffin etc but that isnt't touching it

Scrape most off when the exhaust
is hot.
Then as it cools. Try the solvent

take a Stanley knife blade and carefully rub the sharp edge with fine wet n dry so that it is still sharp but not scratchy...… gen you can carefully scrape just about anything off any surface.
