Seem to remember a post about this but can't find it
I have upgraded to a 55/60 headlight and when on idle at lights the flash rate drops to very slow.
I am assuming that this is because the voltage drops off due to the higher light current draw
Is there a simple fix any of you gurus out there can suggest

Hi I don't seem to be able to start my 500 k0 off the kicker. Starts easily off the starter motor and runs really fine
Is there some magic trick to using the kickstart I should know?
By the way is fine when warm only have issue from cold

Anyone know the purpose of the large spring loaded adjusting screw underneath the throttle grip?
I can't find any mention of it in any manual
I guess it's to alter the rate of return of the throttle when it's let go. Is there a specific way to set it?

I bought a Yamaha Tracer as my "other ride" new last year. Booked a ferry last week for this May for my thrash around the Pyrenees using the reg off the V5C which showed reg of DCxx VYF
In garage on Friday and noticed the number plate was DCxx VYG
Bottom line............. Yamaha main dealer had made the plaet up wrong when I picked it up and neither of us noticed.
Irony is that VYG exists and is another Yamaha
Hope he/she didn't get any traffic violations !!!

May be off topic but not sure where else to post
I am off on a solo thrash around the Spanish Pyrenees late May and just wondered if anyone can recommend good camp sites/biker friendly hotels
I am mainly looking for places to stop over where I am likely to bump in to fellow bikers for a beer or Two in the evenings
Not sure I can stand my own company for 10 days
Of course if anyone else is heading that way ( or knows anyone else heading that way )!atvsame time be good to be in contact
I will be there from May27 to June 4
Sadly not taking the 4 and opting for the Yamaha Tracer as my choice of steed

A number of you had expressed real interest in doing this but I am struggling to get a real confirmation of numbers
As suggested before the plan would be to join up Friday lunch then B&B/cheap hotel Friday and a good scenic run out on Saturday
I need confirmed numbers if I am going to look at accommodation and organise this

Help
I seem to have a small amount of brake fluid leaking from around the top hose joint to the master cylinder.
I have replaced both banjo washer with new copper ones and replaced the bolt. There is no fluid on the hose it would seem is fine.
If I wipe it all clean and leave for a day or so I find fluid around the top of the rubber boot.
Given that fluid can't climb up from the joint into the boot this now mystifying me
Anyone got any bright ideas

I seem to recall a post somewhere claiming you can change valve stem oil seals without pulling the head off
Can anyone provide any guidance on procedure to do this if it can be done?

Hi All I am interested in organising a Summer 17 get together. I am thinking around a week end ride out with with a Sat night stay over somewhere and a few beers/discussions around carbs/pistons/whatever floats your boat.
I am happy to act as organiser/room booker whatever.
Currently am thinking about maybe Wales North or Mid (some good bike roads) but am open to suggestions depending on where people are located.
Let me know if anyone is interested either by PM or reply to this post

Not using my 500 Four now the rainy/cold winter is with us but I do tend to start her once a week just to check all is good.
Always fires up on the button with choke out and a very light throttle opening - but I have noticed a cloud of oily smoke on starting up (particularly from Cyls 1 &2) which diminishes pretty quickly. It’s sort of an initial cough out of a bit of oil in the cylinders. I am assuming this is down to a small drain of oil through the valves whilst standing and is obviously slightly worse with the cold temperature (didn’t seem to happen in the summer).
My real question anyway - is it worth pulling the head and regrinding all the valves again if this is something these bikes tend to do anyway when cold in the winter. I can live with a cough of smoke on startup in reality.

My 500 Four is running like a pig and I am at my wits end trying to fix it !!
Symptoms are will not pull away from start properly and have to rev and slip clutch like hell to get going. It's so bad I cant ride it because it's dangerous when pulling in to traffic etc. I also think there is a lack of power overall, the motor just doesnt feel "zingy", feels really lumpy and feels underpowered.
Since my rebuild its got much worse. Things is have checked/changed
New Points Timing spot on New plugs Good spark at all pots Valve clearances spot on Carbs well balanced Float heights about 3mm below carb flange so also bang on New pistons and rings so not a compression issue
I have come to the conclusion I have a carb problem but would like some thoughts and help. Other symptoms I have noticed are
Plugs 1,2 and 3 are very dark and sooty (rich) but plug 4 looks good Advancing timing to nearly max advance point at tickover makes idle smoother Moving air screw from 1/2 to 2 turns out seems to make absolutely no difference to behaviour
So bottom line she seems to be running very rich particularly at up to 1/2 throttle
When I did my rebuild I did not replace all the jets just cleaned them and replaced O rings so now I have ordered a full carb kit of all new jets, pilot screw, float valve etc so while i wait foe delivery I want to also to do more checks on the carb bodies.
Is it possible I may have a blocked idle circuit? If so how can I check there are no blocked passages anywhere in the carbs. I am not sure what hole connects to what as I cant find a Keihin eploded diagram. What holes should I squirt carb cleaner down to see if the passageways are clear and wher should it come out??

Beginning to suspect I have a coil/ht lead issue.
The bike is just not running right and feels flat also tick over is hunting around.
I have new points and condensers, timing is spot on, new plugs, carbs fully rebuilt and balanced spot on so coils/ht is about the only part not replaced/refurbished.
Is there any easy way of testing them before I bite the bullet and replace them? I know you can check the primary and secondary resistances but I seem to remember reading somewhere that there is more to check

I just restrobe checked my timing and to get the timing marks to line up for 1 and 4 I have had to rotate the main plate as far as it will go anti-clockwise.
This seems a bit odd - have I done something stupid somewhere?
