The old ones you are referring to are like a bakolite. Cut a chanel in them and remove them before powder coating etc. Just cut lengthway with a hacksaw blade and prise out. Then cover the ends for powder coating. I sell the bronze bush replacements.

CB500/550 / Swinging arm bushes
« Last post by Mike_Berkshire on Today at 10:10:31 AM »
Another newbie question. I am getting close to the point where I can send the frame to the paintshop for stripping/enamelling. I have taken off the swinging arm, removed the pivot bolt & the end caps. I assume that where the manual (Im mainly using Haynes) describes 'bushes' it is referring to the inner (steel?) sleeve. Having only worked on old Brit bikes previously, to me a swinging arm bush is a short brass or phosphor bronze insert. Subject to the bush sleeve being within tolerance I am planning to leave it in the swinging arm whilst it is repainted; masking the ends and the grease nipple. Is this approach OK and is my understanding of what needs to be checked for tolerance correct? Thanks

I need to investigate that Dave as mine was just flopping about when I bought the bike. I took one of those Boyer units apart that a member here kindly gave me. Interesting design and it was patented by Ernie Bransden I think. From memory it uses a wasted spark system so doesn't have two switching transistors for each of the two Honda Four coils. So I guess the current draw must be higher than the standard points setup. Really need to revisit it in case I am talking BS plus design some kind of holder for the potted block. Tell you something though, that system seems to have stood the test of time. The failed unit a member (John Webley IIRC) donated to me had failed after many years and miles of reliable service. Plus it was only a failed capacitor IIRC not the main switching transistor.

Something strange is going on with some of the Gallery pictures. The first 8 or so pics have suddenly jumped up to 1800+ views but other pics are near normal numbers of views.
Any clues?
That might change again later we'll see. The web crawler thing that google and bing et al does wonders for stats while it is about, it's complicated. Maybe these images have been linked to social media or something also?

I’ve seen reports of worn carb body where needle jet seats allowing leakage around the jet. Worth checking.

That's a result, they seem to have done away with the discount codes now.  I've decided to order my gauge from Urban Rider, not only cheaper but they answer the phone.
