Announcements / We're Back - board deleted
« on: January 08, 2009, 10:09:58 AM »
It's a couple of years now since John resurrected this forum and 18 months since the "We're Back" thread was used.

So I've deleted it.

I've added a board for "Other Bikes" as I know that many of you (like me) have non-SOHC Hondas and even other makes! (shock)

Hello Hayden.

You should link up with John Burrin (he's the guy who owns this site) "JonnyB". He's in Rutland...

If you are seriously into performance, you need to speak to VoxHonda (he's in Holland) or the guys on www.sohc4.net/forums.  I know that there's a group of them over in the 'States who are arranging for manufacturing of special cranks and pistons etc to get to the magic "100 @ the wheel".

The site is similar to this (same s/w). Use the same username so that we recognise you!

So on the K3, was there a clever cut-out in the exhausts? I had 4 of these over the years and can't remember it being a problem.

The silencer would have to be removed to get the spindle out.

I don't take the spindle out. Undo the adjusters, remove the chain and the brakearm and slide the wheel out backwards.

I thought so.

I have a great deal of respect for the guy as what he doesn't know about tyres "ain't worth knowing" AND he has owned CB750s in the past.

He's wrong here though...

I guess it's the fact that most (all?) modern bikes are that way round (at least the single sided swingarm ones are)

Mine has the castle nut on the left (looking at the bike from behind) which my tyre fitter says is the wrong side. He says that they were fitted the other way so that right-handed mechanics could undo them more easily  ???

Brian, if you read my blog you'll see what happens to a Hinckley if you don't do the spark plugs up tight enough...   :'(

No cognoscenti watching - only the Carole Nash recovery bloke (who was brilliant!)

Hi Brian.

You'll have our NW crowd drooling over that bike!

Questions, questions...

First the exhausts - they look like Swarbricks???

My Sprint ST has a T595 engine; check my blog for the "story"

Misc / Open / Re: Happy New Year - Off to the Ace

It was packed!

There were about 50 bikes plus the obligatory custom cars (nice '50s Thunderbird (Ford not Triumph...))

Only bit that got cold was my toes.

Well, it's 0830 and I'm due outside Bulldog Triumph at 0930 to meet other hardy souls who agreed to come on the Ace Cafe "Hangover Meet" this morning.

They'll be open at 0900!

Mild (ie >5 degrees) at the moment, no frost, dry roads.

Empty roads!

Posting Pictures

When you post, there is a link called "Additional Options..." to the bottom left of the text box.  Click on this.

Now you can attach a file (usually a JPEG for a picture, but any standard file format can be added to your post) by clicking on the "Browse..." button and selecting the file from your PC.

From the drop-down menu, select "inline full-size image" for the best effect Sorry - I can't make it default to this.

To add more files, click on "(more attachments)"

Files must be <3Mb to upload so please cut those pictures down using a graphics or photo programme.

A maximum of 5 images allowed per upload.

Hosted Image files

If you host you pictures (on photobucket for example), you can insert them into the text field of your post which makes narratives much easier to read. Use the "Insert Hyperlink" button (the one with the globe) and post away!

If you have cut and pasted the URL and it shows only an empty post, try this:

    * Right click the picture that you want to display
    * Select "Copy Image Location"
    * Paste into the post between the IMG tags

Resizing Images for Upload (Windows)

I believe that Windows10 has it built-in (just right-click the image)

Uploading an Avatar

You need to be in your "Profile"

In the "Modify Profile" box on the left, click on "Forum Profile Information".  Specify a URL location for your avatar picture or upload it from your PC by using the "I will upload my own picture" radio button.  Anything you type in the "Personal Text" box will appear under your avatar.  Avatar pictures must be no larger than 150 x 150 pixels.

While you are there, fill in the rest of your bio - especially your location.

Also fill in your signature - this will appear at the bottom of every post.  Current bikes, past bikes and a link to your gallery are all good. Big pictures are not so good...

Adding www links to your posts

Anything you type that begins with "www." or "http/:" will automatically be converted into a link.

You can also cut and paste links from the address bar of you browser.

To be really cute, you can use HTML text to post a link with a much more descriptive label (as opposed to an eBay address which stretches across the page and means nothing)

Type this:  [  8)=http://www.ebay.com]THIS[/  8)] where   8) = "url"

Which comes out like THIS:   Cool eh?

Welcome Dave.

You can insert an image by using the little pictureframe icon above, or upload a picture to the site using the "Additional Options" at the bottom of the post.

I've added full instructions to the "Newbies Start Here" thread.

I believe that the 350/400/500/550/750 are all the same. I've certainly used a mix of 500/550 in the past (same reason)

Just checked and my K3 had gold tank badges - they matched the colour of the side panel badges.
