You need to join the Kettle Club if you are going to work on that beauty.

Kevin Brookes is the top man.

I wouldn't use alloy wheel paint on anything that gets hot, but if it's good enough for wheels then your forks should be fine.

Can you post a picture of your key?

I've found that Halfords VHT Aluminium spray paint is a very good match for the alloy bits on my Sprint. It comes in small cans too so cheap/easy to test.

Hello from all in the UK.

I don't think that a little bit of oil under the alternator cover is bad or uncommon.

You will probably meet more Aussies on or sister (global) site: www.sohc4.net - if you haven't found it already, it looks the same as this (uses the same software). Use the same username so that we all recognise you!

Just noticed the steering head sits in a "notch" straight ahead - just ordered some taper bearings to replace!

That's an MOT failure so you're doing the right thing.

This would be a good place to start.

Dave/Bryan, don't you have jobs to go to?

If they are period 1970's alloys  ;D take some pictures and let us see (Lester?, CMA? etc)

My 500-4 has Yamaha XS400 wheels which look a lot like Lester's (but aren't unfortunately...)

Hints on posting pictures here (not this site but why write two FAQs?)

Not a washer. Looks like the bottom of a ball race (but years since I last had this part in bits...)

Mike, do you have a "macro" or "close focus" setting on your camera? It looks as if it is struggling to focus on the parts due to being too close.

« on: November 03, 2008, 09:59:06 AM »
Personally I'd go with Bryan and stick with the points.

But to answer your questions:

1. The Dyna S replaces the points and has no black box
2. The Dyna 2000 does have a black box and allows you to programme custom advance curves etc
3. Dyna make a range of low impedence coils (eg 3 ohm vs std 5 ohm) but these will draw more power from your charging circuit so you had better be sure that it's up to it! Search on www.sohc4.net/forums for "Dyna coil" or similar as there is  loads of info on this over there.

I wouldn't dismiss the Dyna (don't forget that there are two versions, the "S" and the "2000"). Z1 Enterprises have the Dyna S at $120 which replaces the points plate (no other boxes)

There's nothing like a "Don't post here - this is just a test" thread is there?
