Title: Electronic ignition
Post by: florence on July 25, 2019, 04:19:33 PM
With the difficulty in trying to find decent quality replacement contact breaker points, I am considering going electronic.

Do we have any recommendations for systems that are affordable and reliable?  This is a very new concept for me, I have only ever used points before.

Boyer seems the obvious one,  unsure of cost difference of comparable systems though.

I went for Boyer and the full kit including the micro coils
Easy to fit, good technical service and has been totally reliable

I think i paid around £220 for the full kit

I've got Boyer (inc power coils on CR Rep) and work great - bought based on reliable high mileage use on a Z1 in the 70's

Can you estimate impact on Boyer ingition to bike energy consumption? Because seems that other electronic ignitions like Dyna, Pamco etc are causing higher power consumption

I looked into the lower resistance and hence higher power output on the Boyer related to the Dyna (after reading of the impact on the standard wiring of the Dyna) and seemed to remember the Boyer coils did not have the same issues as the Dyna. I'm sure there is loads of info on the Boyer website. I'm sure that other members have good knowledge on this - there's is a post on here somewhere.

All I know is never had an issue with mine using std voltage reg etc

I'm using the Boyer system that retains the standard coils and I'm very happy with it.

Me too on 500
KIT00289 about £130 including VAT and postage.

Think you need a strobe light to set it up.

You do need a strobe, you have to set the advance at 4,500 rpm with a strobe
