Be easier to make all Electric Cars Pay VED, not sure why you can pay 7p per kwh to charge your car but you have to pay 25 p per kwh or more for your home.
VED is payable on electric cars from next year.
Certainly having to pay VED and MoT for classic vehicles would hit the many enthusiasts who have a collection of old vehicles. There has been some stories of using classics for everyday transport as they get round the duty and are ULEZ exempt. I know is Australia (maybe only some states) you are restricted to a maximum number of days a year and have to carry a log showing the days used.

If they are the original shocks then they may well have lost their damping. The shocks on my 550K3 seem to have absolutely no damping so you just bounce up and down. My 550F is not bad so it's a bit random.
Also the damper in the front forks is a sealed unit and I have found some are better than others. Presume there is a sealing ring that could wear particularly if it's been used with dirty oil. Later bikes have seal and parts that could be replaced separately.

I can only comment on my 500K0 when it had it's original US bars but that seems about correct. The cables change from the left side to the right above the ignition coils

I use the cheapest holder I could find. Clamps to the bars, £9.99. If the phone drops off (it never has), it's just a worthless cast off that has been handed down and down. Use maps.me or magic earth. Free stored maps, so don't need data, just location on.

Looking at the circuit diagram it appears to show the blacks connected to the centre. But probably nothing to worry about as it should all be encased in the rubber. The indicator warning light changes polarity I think depending on left or right indicators so is also live on the outer at times.

Always fascinated me this discussion on mixture. When on tickover or very low revs how much of the air goes past the the carb sliders and how much goes via the air mixture screw (not much)? Where does the air that passes the screw feed in? Still have an open mind.

The CB200 has a disc front brake as well as being a twin cylinder - quite a few listed on Gumtree all around the same price band  £2500-£3250 for what look like at least part restored bikes.
CB200 has a cable operated front disc.
I'd go for the C110 as it was my first bike. But mine had indicators. They were very poor. But wonder if bits are available.
When in St Tropez about 8 years ago there was an elderly fisherman with a well worn C110 nearby. Spent a lot more time gazing at that than any of the boats or cars.
How is your garage? Could that do with a bit of work or gadgets that you can pick up at a car boot sale and fix?

Apart from the obvious pulling back a bit, it is a matter of pulling the grab rail and the foot lever further apart. This is a matter of pulling up the side grab rail and putting the firm boot (think I use the sole of shoe but it mast be thick) on the stand lever and locking your body. Lead back a little as you do it. But take care not to do yourself a mischief.

I admit I use a ramp (17mm) for my K0 as it has small low profile tyres.
My usual ride, the K1, I am determined to manage without. Stout shoes with thick sole are a requirement though.

Apparently there is only 13kg between the two. But the centre stand on the 500 is awful. Badly positioned and the angle of the boot lever is very poor (to avoid the pipes). And there only 9.5 stone and 5'4" and a bit of me. Plus catching up with you on age.
The 550F and the 550K3 are both much easier.
Don't drop it now, it's looking great and ready for a shakedown run.

CB500/550 / Re: Front Fork Clamp Bolt Torque settings.
« on: August 23, 2024, 07:20:16 PM »
Normal Honda Manual confusion:
Item 18 is marked as M10 x 40. (but CMSNL list it as M10 x 35?) So must be the bolts in the bottom yoke.
Item 24 is marked as M8 x 56. So has got to be the bolts through the spacers in the top yoke. But be careful.
Item 30 seems to be a repeat of item 18, the torque values are the same.
And go easy on that top nut, I've never torqued one.

I have slightly higher bars on a 500. Can't be much help but can tell you that the UK type sold by DSS is 1.04. The one sold by Andy Cepok (bought on ebay) is 1.04. Also have a original Honda p/n 22870-323-020 (which is for the US spec) that I fitted last week is 1.12m.
Measurements are outer (inc fitgs), so nothing comes close to 1.3m. (+11cm if over inner.)

I'm going to have a go at improving the appearance of my tank badges before I fit them back in place.(Boy are they expensive).
The original 500 badges were silver. The badges now sold are 750 badges and they are gold. Sold the ones I restored that were not great so just bought a set from Japan (So net cost only £37)

Thats the ones i remember, just about every bike i did a pdi on got the tin bits took off!

Pity you didn't keep the tin bits mate ... worth a few bob now.
I have a set for one of my 500s. Paid silly money for a couple. The set set me back over £70.
DSS has a 500 one for sale.
