CB750 / Squealing front breaks when wheeling bike around
« on: September 26, 2020, 03:38:49 PM »
Front disc and pads recently replaced, I get a lot of squealing when wheeling my bike in and out the garage. No noticeable squealing when actually riding it at any speed. Probably done about 250 miles since the change.

Any suggestions on what I can look at to reduce this at all?

CB750 / Fork brace option
« on: May 16, 2020, 09:18:21 AM »
Currently run no front fender on my 750k6 build, I haven’t noticed any significant slop in the front end (but then again I don’t hammer the old girl) but have been recently thinking about a fork brace.

Original plan was just to use the inner bracket off the front fender but mine was too nice to chop up so it’s gone to someone else. On the look out for one that’s damaged so I Won’t mind destroying it as much but I suppose it still won’t be as good as a real fork brace.

Anyone using a fork brace here? Would love to know which one and see some pics!

CB750 / Battery not charging - what else to check
« on: September 29, 2018, 06:43:58 PM »
Got an issue with my battery not charging, just runs down when I ride it and needs kick starting pretty much on any start up where it’s not just come off a trickle charger, run fine and hasn’t failed in getting me home yet but obviously I’d like to sort this, I’m unsure whether a severely discharged battery will stop the bike kick starting..?

So the battery is a new AGM one, my reg rec is a solid state ‘RR24’ from M and P (think it’s the same one wemoto sell) and my harness is simplified to avoid the safety gubbins.

What I’ve checked so far:

Fuses - all good
Battery was at 12.71v with ignition off
Dropped a bit as it failed to start off the e start so had to kick it, voltage was at 11.63 at 4K rpm
Resistance from neg battery lead (disconnected)  to black regulator wire is 0.05ohm (on 200 setting)
Resistance between yellow stator wires (checked at the connector block) are all 0.8ohm (on 200 setting)
Resistance of the stator wires in the main harness itself are all 0.4ohm (on 200 setting) but I get the same value when I touch the multimeter test wires together so I guess this is as low as it goes.
Resistance from the green wire on the Reg/red to the yellow stator wires is between 179 and 200ohms (on 200 setting). From the red wire on the reg/red to the yellow stator wires it’s 178-180 ohms.

Unsure what else to check? Was hoping it would be obvious but electrics is still something I’m getting to grips with. Have checked for any obvious corrosion or mismatched wires, the main harness is new and the other bits have all had their connectors cleaned.

Any guidance much appreciated!

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Wemoto jets?
« on: September 18, 2018, 05:52:29 PM »
Looking for a set of #115 jets for my 750k6, was recommended a while back that wemoto are a good place to get them but the websites search engine is terrible and I can’t seem to bring anything up..

Do they actually sell jets?

Misc / Open / Smaller capacity bikes
« on: August 15, 2018, 07:20:49 PM »
Had a feeling recently that I’d like to add a smaller capacity CB/4 to my fleet,  took my old mans 600 sports bike out earlier which I found pretty boring - reminded me of a saying that it’s more fun riding a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow.

Those of you with 500/4’s, 400/4s and smaller - what’s the attraction for you? I fancy something small and light for pootling through the country lanes to get into town on, Sunday afternoon to the pub etc. Basically I want something that will put a smile on my face without having to ride fast - do you find these smaller bikes give you this?

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Engine bolt kits
« on: August 12, 2018, 03:24:47 PM »
My original bolts for all the various engine covers are pretty chewed up, considering changing them out. Not too bothered about originality so hex  head etc will do.

Pro bolt do lots which are £100s, and there are cheap stainless sets on the bay for ~£20 - anyone got any experience with these?

CB750 / Braided hoses
« on: July 02, 2018, 11:39:07 AM »
After some braided hoses for my CB750k6. Seen HEL recommended on here so messaged a seller on eBay and although it’s advertised for a CB750k he couldn’t confirm if the ones pre made up by HEL use the rigid metal pipe or not (I don’t want to use it).

He said he actually makes them up to order aswell and can do it in a number of ways,

firstly he can do a like for like replacement which retains the original brake switch and be in three pieces to replace the upper hose, lower hose, and metal pipe bit

Secondly he can do a two piece (replacing the lower hose and metal pipe with once piece) again retaining the original brake switch

Thirdly he can do a once piece which requires a banjo pressure switch bolt for the brake light (I actually have a brake lever with a switch built in.

What do most people go for? To be honest I’d like a once piece but since I’m wiring my bars internally I don’t want an external wire heading down to the loom, and where the connection for the brake switch is on the bars it would require another separate hole if I wanted it internally routed, think the handlebars will have enough holes in them as is!

CB750 / Electrical help
« on: June 29, 2018, 07:54:39 PM »
Having a few snags with the headlight bucket electrics, the bike is a K6, the harness is an aftermarket one from Z1 parts for a K3-K5 but came with a little jumper cable to ft the K6 (as it doesn’t have an on/off headlight switch as stock) BUT I have repro switch gears which DO have the on off switch so I’m basically wiring the same as a stock K3-5.

I have an aftermarket speedo (with LED idiot lights) and an aftermarket tacho. Colours on the wires from these are all kinds of colours but I think I have hen figured out.

Currently all that’s working is an oil pressure light and the backlights for the gauges. Don’t currently have brakes or indicators on the bike.

Firstly is this right, it’s a teal/red wire which comes from the neutral switch, I’ve currently got it connected directly to the neutral light (other wire from neutral light has gone to black). Confusing as all the wiring diagrams show this wire as green/red not teal/red but looked at my old harness and that’s also teal/red

Secondly I’m not sure where this black red wire goes, as far as I’m aware it comes from the starter switch. I’ve connected it to the brown / red wire here (headlight circuit), as that’s as best as I can work out from online wiring diagrams!

Misc / Open / Help identify this mudguard bracket
« on: June 21, 2018, 07:45:49 PM »
A long while back i acquired the bracket out of (what i thought was a 750k) front fender and its sat on a shelf for a year or two. recently got it blasted and powder coated black with intent to run it inlace of a full mudguard to give a fender-less look without having fork slop.

Turns out it doesn't fit a 750 (probably should have checked!) but does anyone recognise the fitment?

CB750 / Help with starter safety switch wiring
« on: June 20, 2018, 05:38:05 PM »
Fancied a break front scrubbing carb bodies today so have made a start with the wiring on my US K6.

So here’s the short of the issue. The bike originally didn’t have a starter safety switch but the new harness has the block connector for it (aftermarket harness).

.

My bike has one of these ‘rectifier, silicon’ things down there instead:

Now on the original harness the wires for this little silicon rectifier went up and joined the blue/white  and brown wires on the starter solenoid. The new harness has a yellow/red wire and a black wire available to connect to the solenoid, which I’ve done here:

These two wires end up in the unrequired starter safety switch block connector, so I can use those two tires for the silicon rectifier. However this leaves 3 other wires which I don’t know what do with. These 3 surplus wires go to the headlight bucket (I’ve not yet wires up the front end). If they’re unrequited can I just leave them unconnected?

Secondly I can’t see what connects into these green and white wires down by the alternator - will they have just slipped behind the alternator cover? I might have put some gasket sealer on that cover so don’t really want To take t back off so thought I would check first.

CB750 / DIY ultrasonic carb cleaning results
« on: June 17, 2018, 06:49:35 PM »
Tried my Chinese ‘GT Sonic’ carb cleaner for the first time today along with Allendale ultrasonic carb cleaning solution.

After 2x5 minute blasts, a 10 min blast and finally a 30minute blast at 70 degrees my carb body still looks like this:

Basically no different to when I started, it’s all been blasted out with air so I’m confident it’s all clear, there was also a bit of sludge at the bottom of the solution which had turned brown. Basically what’s this white stuff? It was there before I started and US cleaning obviously isn’t removing it. Got another carb body in some thinners  overnight so will see what that’s like in the morning. Carb bowl is sparkling but I’d already manually cleaned that thoroughly.

Am I expecting too much of my US cleaner?

CB750 / Brake pads and shoes
« on: June 06, 2018, 11:00:32 PM »
What’s the general consensus on organic vs sintered brake pads? The EBS ones on eBay are about the same sort of price.

Choice seems a lot more limited on brake shoes there are a ton on eBay around the £20 mark all with the same picture, most of them don’t mention a brand but some have a brand name I’ve never heard of, I assume they are all from the same manufacturer - are these any good? The other option is some EBS NOS, any reason they would become less effective with age?

Misc / Open / Steps for registering pre 77 imported bike
« on: June 04, 2018, 02:23:31 PM »
I see the rules have changed meaning now pre 1977 motor vehicles are no longer required to have an MOT.

Anyone know how this effects pre 77 bikes imported with NOVA certification, from my understanding one of the first steps is to get it MOT’d?

CB750 / Chain and sprockets - worth changing the gearing?
« on: June 02, 2018, 01:09:01 PM »
Whats the general consensus on changing the 18/48T gearing for a little more low end if i'm not going to be spending a lot of time on motorways?

Just looking at getting sprockets and chain so thought it was at least worth asking the question
